I returned 2 new burners to LG in Dec 2021, which I purchased from Newegg. Each burner died within 2 months from the date I received each one. I send both to LG for replacements. LG sent me used replacements. The 2 replacements were both model WH16NS40. I was able to burn about 15 Blu Ray discs with the first burner before it died. I installed the second burner. I was about to burn 6 Blu Rays before it died. Both would spin up and down, then fail. They ruined many of my blank Blu Ray discs. I installed both in another computer. They both failed. I ran Dell Support Assistant on my computer. After testing each drive, it stated hardware failure for both. Before 2021, the LG burners I purchased lasted me 1 year plus. The 2 I purchased in 2021 and the 2 replacements are junk. LG might be using cheaper parts to cut costs. I will not return these used burners and pay for return shipping.

Purchased this because a media drive failed in my desktop computer. Assembly was quick and easy. Connection to an 8 port usb3 hub purchased at the same time was simple. Fired my system up and was a little concerned at first but after allowing my system time to recognize everything, all was well. Drive is fast but is noticeable when it spins up but it is also sitting on my desk next to my keyboard. Firmware was up to date when it arrives at my home. Drive seems mechanically sound but only time will tell.

I have 2 of these in my custom pc of 9 years, and worked fantastic, until they stopped being recognized by my pc. Talk about consistency, both players stopped within a week of each other. Any further comments are against writing guidelines, so we'll leave it at that.

I purchased 1 in August from Newegg. It died in October, outside the 30 day return period. I purchased another 1 in October from Newegg. It died this month, November. It also was beyond the 30 day return period. I would never buy another one.

I bought this a month ago, and since I didn't realize you needed to purchase a license to play blurays I haven't touched it. I tried taking a second crack at using a VLC work around but now my player won't recognize anything put in it. It just doesn't even check if there is a disc, I got it to work once after unplugging it for awhile but it's now dead weight. ABSOLUTE TRASH

This Blu-Ray burner is only three years old and it has started making a horrible grinding noise as it plays DVDs. Removing and reloading the DVD does not help. If I can't fix it, I'll have to replace it because it's so loud it distracts from the show.

This drive will not update and stopped working when I upgraded to windows 10. It's the last LG product I'll ever purchase as its the 3rd LG drive I've owned to fail due to software update. No support what so ever because of the drives age. Why purchase from a company that doesn't stand behind their products in anyway?

I purchased this model back in 2014, and just now I tried to use it as a bluray burner for the first time, but it failed. I tried both Nero, and Power2go, but no use, I tried to update the firmware from 1.01 to 1.03, tried to burn with 4x speed even though the discs (BD-R 25GB) I have support 6x. I tried everything, I sent the error log file to Nero for inspection, but it seems from their reply that the problem not from the software nor from the 3 discs I tried to burn my files. CD and DVD burner works just fine. FYR: The Blu-Ray disc I purchased from newegg: BD-R PlexDisc 6X 25GB, 50 Discs. I do not recommended LG brand for Bluray burner at least, I will purchase Asus model, even though it is more expensive.

bought it 3 months ago and it started burning intermittently. Tried to get it repaired under warranty but LG wouldn't stand behind their product since I didn't buy from a certain seller.

I have always bought other brand name DVD writers. I decided to give this LG WH14NS40 a try. I've always loved LG products and this one didn't disappoint right from the start. Installation is easy, and my Windows 10.1 1870 build installed it without issue. It plays all my movies, game discs and music CD's perfectly and beautifully! I didn't even install any installation files to be able to use it. I did however take advantage of the few programs LG has to offer to expand my experience. And I can honestly say I couldn't be happier. I will be a continued LG fan forever. And now with my computer products as well. Thank you LG. You really do make life happier! I bought this so I could watch my bluray movies on my computer. I had it for 2 1/2 years. Got a new bluray a few days ago in the mail, watched it, went to watch another disk and it stopped working. I put in a different disk and it spits it out and tells me to put in a disk. Will not recognize any disk or play any disks.

I purchased 2 months ago. It does the job but it is very noisy and unbalanced. I thought it was my discs at first but it does not seem to matter what I put in it, it is very noisy and vibrates something awful. And while it's making its noise and vibrating it will not read the disk.I am very disappointed in this drive that came highly recommended. I feel the drive is not worth the material it took to make it. Sorry but that is how I feel. The worse thing is LG said they can't help me except maybe replace it with a refurbished drive. I didn't purchase a refurbished drive, I purchased a new one with a new warranty, not the silly 90 day warranty that comes with a refurbished drive. Very dishonest if you ask me. So unless LG can replace my drive with a new one with the full NEW DRIVE warranty I think i'll buy another brand.

I'm very happy with this purchase, the best blu-ray burner you could ever have.

Bought this at the end of August, and by November it started failing intermittently with Blurays. Now, it almost never will play a bluray and intermittently fails with DVDs. At least it'll still work 100% of the time with CDs... Waste of money.

I bought three of these over the past 9 months, and they all worked very well. One caveat is that although they burn Verbatim Brand dual layer BD-Rs at 8x, you have to burn them at 2x to make them compatible with stand alone blue-ray players, and even then they may have momentary freezes. I tired to play these back on several standalone players with the same problem. After contacting tech support, they advised me with a canned response to use Panasonic brand BD-R dual layer. Unfortunately these are not very widely available in the US. The Verbatim dual layer BD-Rs are very widely available in the US and is a popular brand known for its quality. Why would LG not offer better support for this brand of BD-Rs but support a difficult to get (and much more expensive brand is beyond me. This was a very big mistake on LGs part. Otherwise, the drive works good.

I've had nothing but problems with every LG product I've purchased. The computer screen I bought died after a couple years and had a burnt pixel for a while... I bought an AC which didn't cool anything... and this Blu-ray optical drive? Well, it just decided not to read most of my disks. Some work, others don't. "LG" or "LB"?

Loud. Runs when nothing is being read from the disk. Disk rattles around in player. I tested several disk on another player. Quiet and smooth on the other player. Slow to load data files(My computer: Kaby Lake G4600, 8G DDR4 2400 RAM, Windows 10).

Bought it without software but I already had my own, it works great with Cyberlink Media Suite, Nero Burning Rom and others... I use it mainly for storing data on Blu ray disc.

Purchased in 2016. Worked fine for 20 minutes. Never really used it or had reason so I figured it would still function as a DVD drive. Finally needed it as a Blu-Ray player and sent it in to LG for repair. Not 2 months later and again the drive reads no disks of any kind.

Just got Downton Abbey from a friend, but were Bluray, so swapped out one of my optical drives on desktop with this one. Easy swap out, about 15 min. Reads Bluray just fine. Also better burn for DVDs.

It's an ok drive but without any software it's almost unusable. No driver dl was necessary as win7 automatically recognized it and installed drivers. It read the BD fine and listed contents of the disc but I couldn't watch any movies because none of the media players on my machine worked with it so I have no idea how it performs.

Best thing in optical since optical came out

The storage capacity is amazing and perfect for me and my movie and music collections. It was awful having to spend and spend on hundreds of CD's and even DVD-DL's for this. Not only is the storage capacity fantastic, this thing works beautifully out-of-the-box on Linux. This is another main important feature for me since I will not ever use Microsoft's OS's ever again. It's fast, quiet, and even the eject button is much nicer and easier to hit than any other similar device on the market. ...

Excellent BD Rewriter
By Steve
I purchased this to replace a failing DVD R/W in a computer. It installed easily, runs like a champ, and I've had zero issues with it. It's a great burner and an excellent value.
With the Super Multi Blue Internal 14x Blu-ray Disc Rewriter, you can effortlessly read and write Blu-ray discs at a remarkable speed of 14x. This high-performance device allows you to record an impressive 128GB of data, including files, photos, or documents, onto a quad-layer BD-R disc.
Leveraging the power of SATA interface technology, this Blu-ray disc rewriter ensures easier integration and superior performance. It also supports M-DISC, offering unparalleled reliability in data storage, making it an ideal choice for archiving crucial data.
The device boasts a 14x BD-R write capability, a Serial ATA interface, and the ability to write and read quad, triple, and double layer BD-R discs. It also offers a maximum 16x DVD+/-R write speed and is compatible with Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and CD families.
The Blu-ray disc rewriter is equipped with a 4MB buffer under-run prevention function and is RoHS compliant. It supports BDXL Ultimate Capacity, with three-layer BDXL-R/BDXL RE discs offering 100GB capacity and quad-layer BDXL-R discs providing a whopping 128GB storage capacity.
This means you can write up to 128GBs of data on a single quad-layer BDXL disc, equivalent to 27 standard DVDs or 5 single-layer Blu-ray discs. With its ultra-fast write speed, you can save significant burning time without compromising on quality.
The device also features 2D-TO-3D real-time converting, allowing you to easily convert 2D-to-3D DVD titles and file-based videos in real-time. With M-DISC Support, your data is etched onto a patent rock-like recording surface, providing superior data protection compared to standard DVDs.
The Silent Play technology automatically controls the disc read speed for optimal noise reduction, ensuring a peaceful operation. Plus, the Jamless Play feature prevents stop video playback in case of a damaged disc, jumping through the erroneous data or damaged areas for nonstop playability.
In summary, the Super Multi Blue Internal 14x Blu-ray Disc Rewriter is a powerful, reliable, and efficient solution for all your data storage and playback needs.
