Beautiful monitor, over the nine years that I've owned it. It has failed twice, once repaired by a local LG shop; the second time, I had to send it back to LG. Still waiting to hear from them.

These are great when they work. Extremely sensitive to power fluctuations. And 9/10 times if the device refuses to turn on, it's the EEPROM chip on the mainboard stuck in a loop, refusing to issue a power on voltage. There is a ton of replacement chips online and it's a relatively easy fix. The monitor's been out of production for some time, so it's pointless to worry about warranty. Buy one that won't turn on but is fine otherwise and swap your own EEPROM.

The Good: The monitor is REALLY sharp, great colour reproduction and easy to use menus with a plethora of options for connectivity. The Bad: QUITE often get screen tearing that can be mitigated by switching screen resolutions (but is a pain), and I find the screen VERY sensitive to shocks. The screen's main board have shorted on two occasions, both times connected to UPS power backups with surge protection. I've had the monitor board replaced once at 50% the cost of the unit (originally $1000) and now after a second failure with no interest to keep my business, i'm forced to consider the competition for a solution. What else can I say?

I decided to try LG against my better judgement. I'm usually a Samsung guy. I bought this monitor in July of 2015 and the warranty ran out in July of 2016. On March 6, 2019, my 31MU97-B Monitor died; I was cleaning a speck of dirt off of the screen with my finger and it suddenly went black. I tried everything- unplug, replug, new power and HDMI cables, nothing resurrected it. So, I got about four years of use out of it. In comparison though, I own an older Samsung U28D590D that I bought in July of 2014. My daughter has been using it and it still works like a champ- no dead pixels, no issues whatsoever and she games, does her college homework, and chats on Facebook; she uses her monitor way more hours than I do. I have now switched to Acer because of their 3 year warranty. I feel the company backs their products better than LG. I didn't buy another Samsung because, they too only offer a one year warranty. When you and I purchase high end 4K monitors (around $1,000+), we expect them to last at least till the next technology update (e.g. OLED). But, perhaps I'm expecting too much. Still, I'll keep trying different companies till one gets it right.

I have had this monitor for a couple of years. I just powered it off, and moved it to another desk and now it is dead. Then I search and find out that it is very common. I will NEVER buy another LG product. Do not waste your money. I'm sure this will get deleted.

Works ok but not 100% iMac Pro compatible, the screen resolution is fine but when the monitor is connected the iMac mouse pointer is jerky intermittently. It's a real killer and every time the monitor starts I get the message "(Caution make sure to use a supplied mini display port and HDMI cable" but the iMac pro doesn't have a display port but it on the iMac pro supported monitor list??? I tried a USB-C to Display port and the monitor is not even recognised. Very frustrating indeed. Apparently its a common problem on further research????

Bought it and when warranty was expired video board crapped. You did nothing for me so it went to recycle plant. I cannot afford to deal with manufacturers like LG

Have had this tv for 5+ years. It's great, sleek and the picture quality and features are optimal for 2010. Consider this, all advanced features relevant to xbox one are compatible with this lg tv, even though the xbox was released years later. Lg products are competitively equal to other bands, and cheaper. They support all current generation features given the year of the product. I've never had a problem with my LGTV. It's served well and there has not needed to be any maintenance so far. The LG team knows quality as well as reasonable pricing on products.

it's now more than 6 months since i purchased the LG tv. it actually is far much better than my previous unit in terms of clarity and im spoilt for choice. i especially like the fact that the navigation is so simple yet precise. also the additional Bluetooth sound function is a plus. i however do have a couple of downside to it. the apps are limited (i wish they introduced KODI for this tv) also the storage is way way to small. i hope they introduce compatible 1tb disks that can be easily replaced, this will assist in strong downloaded movies and series to be viewed later and at leisure. this will also reduce the number of times that the apps have to stop in order for the tv to clear some space otherwise. i would highly recommend this to anyone.

I bought this tv as a bedroom tv and didnt really use much. A month after 1 yr from purchase there is a problem with the lights in back of tv. It looks like 6 flashlights are shining in from the back of tv making the viewing experience terrible with too much white light to see anything. I called lg and the response i got was that it was no longer under warranty. I have purchased several lg tvs and other electronics and would consider myself a fan of the brand. I have since changed my thoughts and will be searching for a new brand to enjoy. No more lg loyalty from this consumer

Monitor is great looking. Problem is using a USB-C to DisplayPort cable. This will not work. LG emailed back saying they do not recommend using conversion cables, adapters or docks for this monitor but only the cables that come with the box. The displayport cable looks a little thicker than a standard displayport cable. So this will not work on a 2016 MacBook Pro. Will work with Apple Multimedia adapter with HDMI but at 30 hz. This is no ordinary 4k monitor. Bottom line go for the LG Ultra Fine 5K made for 2016 MacBook Pros. WOW that thing is amazing. Tried this monitor because LG 5k was not available yet at the time. Returned it and got the LG 5K. By new stuff with new stuff.

I bought this monitor over a year ago and had pops and blackouts that continued and got worse...using the supplied cable. I had it inspected twice and updated firmware at local repair shop. Finally had to send to LG for repair. It worked for a couple months but has just started to pop and blackout again. This must be a poor design, and completely ridiculous to have these issues with such an expensive monitor.

The video is really nice and so are the extra inputs. The problem with it is you can't easily switch between inputs without navigating the menu which is really slow. There should be buttons for each input to make it faster. That is my biggest downgrade.

I believe this monitor should have the input. signal requirements documented in some more specific way. The flier "manual" sucks. I have purchased it, then returned it, as it kept going off on me, while in the highest resolution and over the mini DP, using supplied cable. I purchased another DP cable, with confirmed 4k specs, and the same issue was still occuring. randomly, after a few minutes, it was shutting off the picture, like it lost the signal. powering off and on was bringing the picture back, for another several minutes, then again... click... gone... I've then gone over the opinions about this monitor on the bestbuy site, and someone there said it turned out to be his gtx950 card. And that his problem was solved with upgrading to gtx970. I have ordered another monitor, and gtx970... I've then replaced my nvidia gtx950 with nvidia gtx970, and the issue magically disappeared. It's been working ok since. It would have been sooo nice to have some way knowing such thing when about to buy one. Not having to learn the hard way, going through the hassle of returning, purchasing another one... GTX950 isnt a bad graphics card. Its just not meant for playing some high grsphics games, and I don't play games. And the 950 does list the correct resolution/frequency in its specs. How could I have figured then, this is not going to work with 950? This should be better documented. p.s. I hate the joystick thing. super annoying.

I have had this monitor for more than 6 months and I am still amazed how good the picture is. For games, videos or photos it is impressive how clear and sharp the images are.

I use this at work with the latest and greatest Retina Macbook Pro 15, and this is an external display which is worthy companion to the internal display. I also have 2013 rMBP but it is not capable of better resolution than 3840x2160 via HDMI and the image displays stretched. The colors look excellent and even colored surfaces look even. I use the monitor mainly for coding and use the resolution for desktop space, I run it at native resolution without HiDPI. The size of text becomes a very small even at this size (31 inches may sound large but it is not that large really, 40 inch would be better) and I am sitting very close to the display. The monitor can be viewed very close so it is not a problem, but it is excellent coding experience. I run terminal and Xcode side by side. I have increased font size on Xcode a little. I also use the monitor for 4K video editing (GH4, 1DX mark II) with Davinci Resolve and FCPX and for photo editing with Lightroom and Photoshop. The monitor is excellent in these tasks obviously. The DP1.2 output can not output continuously the 4096x2160 at 60 Hz, so to avoid monitor blacking out annoyingly, the output frequency had to be lowered to 50Hz using SwitchResX and it was not straightforward. With HDMI it is possible to use the monitor at 30Hz without such tweaking. This is not monitor's fault but Mac's fault and especially a serious limitation in OSX that it can not adapt to 50Hz without resorting to a third party app that "hacks" different frequency to the system. This is excellent monitor for those who know what to do (SwitchResX tweaking) and know the limitations of their computer and like with Mac can deal with them.

I love photography and video/photo composition. This monitor is perfect for this work. The only thing I do not like, is the control joystick. I have two PC and often switch the entry from one to another (the split screen is not good for me). to exchange input, I have to click with the joystick 9 times in various directions, I have other monitor where just one click. I hope in a new firmware to improve the function menu.

Have had this for several months now and the colors and detail are outstanding. BUT, occasionally, when it is turned on for a period of time, there is a loud popping sound (like a capacitor discharging) and a momentary scrambling of the screen. Everything works fine afterwards and it does not seem to effect anything I am working on. I am worried because I do not know whether this is an indication of a potential major problem that will effect the life of the unit.

I have had the monitor about 2 months now and I couldn't be happier with it. The picture is amazing and I am surprised every time I sit down in front of it how good it looks. The features are good and it is easy to use and set up. It may be a professional grade monitor but you don't have to be a pro to appreciate how good this monitor looks. I am not much of a gamer but I have played a game or two on it and it is excellent for games as well.
