I really appreciated the value offered with the accessory bundle and even more so, the peace of mind knowing that I'm purchasing compatable accessories. As someone just getting into photography, I wasn't sure what I needed ar how best to shop for it. The bundle gave me a great start. Shipping was fast and I received everything quickly.

It's an outstanding camera for its price and relatively light weight for taking photos of birds as well as other photos. It's easy to carry and use, has multiple setting options, good battery life between rechargings, and gets great photos. I had its predecessor, a Coolpix P900, for four years, recommended to me by a forest preserve naturalist. I recently tripped on a tree root, fell, and ruined the camera. I didn't need to shop around to see if better options were available. I ordered the P950 the same day.

This is a fun camera for close or zoom. The pictures are sharp (to me) and I have not had trouble with stability at full zoom. It takes great moon and Sun shots (with filter). Used it during the annular eclipse.

This is my first camera purchase. I wanted a good point and shoot for nature and birding. This camera has allowed me to take wonderful photos while I learn the other features and settings. It's perfect for what I needed it for. I'll definitely need an tripod for as much as I use the incredible zoom.

I'm upgrading from just taking pictures with an iPhone and read a lot of reviews which said you should get the biggest sensor you could for better image quality but since I wanted to photograph wildlife from a distance and was only viewing the photos on my laptop this is the perfect camera. Anything less than this zoom range would be pointless for my purposes. So glad I got this, half wishing I had got the P1000 but I don't think I would be able to hold that still at maximum zoon, it's tricky enough with the P950.

The lens, software and sensor are all excellent, but what earns the camera 5 stars are its well-thought-out, intuitive controls. I use the camera mostly for photographing birds, and the little devils flit around very quickly. A camera that is slow to operate will mostly take pictures of twigs and branches where birds used to be. This one is fast. It focuses and sets exposure quickly, and allows you to place necessary adjustments under your thumb and/or forefinger for rapid access. Birds need exposure compensation, not occasionally but most of the time. Being able to adjust this rapidly and intuitively and see the result in the viewfinder is a joy! The camera is well balanced and points where you look. Both viewfinder and view screen are bright, and the display can be adjusted to show as much or as little as you want. The viewscreen is large. It is not a touch screen, but I don?t want one. This camera is in a sweet spot. The P1000 lens is too long - never thought I?d say that.

I will preface this review by stating that I shoot RAW and Manual. I've been shooting like this for years with a DSLR and a mirrorless, so it's a matter of habit, as well as me being happier with the pictures. I've put this camera on Auto ISO, 100 to 3200, something I haven't done before. The sensor seems to adjust the ISO perfectly most of the time. It also has excellent vibration control. I'm quite happy with the one video I took. My other videos with other cameras jumped all over the place. Let's face it, I'm not a videographer. What I don't like is that the camera doesn't show me battery level. It's got the little icon, it always shows the battery as full. Maybe it's just my camera. I carry a charged spare. Also, watch where your hands are, or you might be stopping the lens from extending fully (if they are touching the controls on the left side of the camera), or you might accidentally put it in manual focus (why isn't this darned thing focusing?)

After trying two other bridge cameras (Sony, excellent but complicated menus & controls; Panasonic Lumix DC FZ80?.ok but did not quite fit my needs)this Nikon P950 will probably be a keeper?..easy to use (on line videos help), great zoom, heavier than the other two but way lighter than a dslr and long zoom lens. Having a little trouble with manual focus, but auto focus works well. Also slower in all aspects, not just aperture, but for an ?always with you?camera having the ability to shoot birds/wildlife at a distance it works well. Have taken bird photos at 100? away with good focus?would like more detail/clarity but I am still learning the camera so it may be user error. Would suggest ISO of 1600 or less to avoid grain. Only complaint is the battery life ?.. will contact Adriana tomorrow about that as it was purchased as new and battery did not last an hour of random photos at a wildlife refuse today.

BEST CAMERA IVE EVER OWNED! Easy, and let me tell you I took pictures of the moon from my front porch with NO TRIPOD and they are awesome! Getting the snap bridge app to pair with my iPhone was a bit challenging however, Nikon support was excellent walked me though even sent me links for videos and it?s working great

This camera is great for birdwatching. It is like a spotting scope built onto a camera and is great for identifying far away birds.

2021-06-10T09:25:58
It's larger and heavier than anticipated, but seems to be a good camera - I've only used it once. It is a replacement for a P520 which was the perfect size, weight for hiking camera. This one is about twice and large and heavier - too big to put in backpack in case of rain. I would prefer the size/weight of the P520, but that one just up and died and I can't find another one. While this one is better telephoto, the smaller size would be much preferred - didn't see anything similar to the P520 in size, weight and abilities

The camera is awesome. I love the 83x zoom lens. The camera came boxed very securely. As for the bundle it was o.k. I had to buy a bigger camera bag as this one barely holds the big Nikon 950. I also bought a larger and faster memory card instead of the one I got, a larger card helps with the raw files. The extra battery was nice to have.

I’m enjoying my new P950 though it runs VERY differently that my other mirrorless and DSLR Nikons. The “package deal” from Adorama was a solid value but the included camera case was too small for the P950 and the mini-tripod did not match the marketing image. That said, I still love Adorama.

Loving it so far. Very easy to use. The viewfinder is a huge upgrade from the B700 previously used. I think the combination of size and zoom capabilities will be very handy for wildlife photography. Software package very easy to download and install. Filters work great and add nice layer of protection for the lens.
The new addition to Nikon’s COOLPIX family is a superzoom bridge camera that features 83x optical zoom and 4K video recording. This latest model delivers images and videos in high resolution, thanks to its 16MP 1/2.3” BSI CMOS sensor. It even captures videos in Full HD at up to 60 fps. Just like the P900 before it, the P950 has a 24-2000mm lens. Its Dual Detect Vibration Reduction feature improves this broad focal range with 5.5 stops of compensation. And to shoot subjects from far away, the camera features 166x digital zoom. It also boasts an f/2.8 aperture when you use the wide-angle length on the lens, which is great for shooting handheld. As for composing shots, the P950 boasts a 2.359m-dot electronic viewfinder and a 3.2”, 921k-dot vari-angle touchscreen LCD. Wireless file sharing and remote camera control are possible as well with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
The 83x optical zoom of the COOLPIX P950 covers an incredible focal-length range, from wide-angle 24mm1 to super-telephoto 2,000mm1 and everything in between. With a zoom this powerful, you can capture distant subjects far beyond the reach of an ordinary camera—from birds and other animals in the wild, to distant landscapes, aircraft and even planets. Dynamic Fine Zoom2, an enhanced digital zoom that effectively doubles the reach to a 4,000mm1, allowing for even greater zoom potential. At the other end of the spectrum, macro photography can be captured as close as approx. 1 cm/0.4 in.3. From extreme close-ups to extreme zoom, the COOLPIX P950 delivers sharp, clear and beautiful images, all in a compact, highly portable body.
The COOLPIX P950 puts the incredible power of a 2,000mm zoom lens into a compact body that weighs just 2 lb. 3.5 oz. This combination of portability and super-telephoto performance is incredible, giving photographers the freedom to take their creativity to exciting new places.
Image blur can be a major issue, especially with distant subjects and super-telephoto shooting. Thanks to its Dual Detect Optical VR (Vibration Reduction), the COOLPIX P950 effectively reduces image blur caused by camera shake for sharp images of distant subjects even when shooting handheld. In NORMAL mode, images are stabilized with an equivalent of shooting at a shutter speed 5.5 stops faster*, the maximum in the history of Nikon compact digital cameras**.
*Based on CIPA Standards, measured at approx. 350mm (35mm format equivalent).
**As of January, 2020.
The COOLPIX P950’s advanced optical system features a Super ED glass element used in Nikon’s heralded DSLR lenses, which provides higher image-forming capability and effectively reduces chromatic aberration, dynamically achieving superior image quality with super-telephoto shooting. The backside-illuminated CMOS image sensor, with 16.0 effective megapixels and sensitivity up to 6400 ISO, enables the capture of clear, sharp images even in dark shooting situations.
With the COOLPIX P950, you don’t have to wait for image data to write to the memory card before your next shot. Thanks to an increased buffer capacity, you can fire two consecutive bursts in Continuous H mode (up to 10 frames* at approx. 7 fps). Combined with faster AF performance at the telephoto end, it’s easier than ever to nail decisive moments and once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities when shooting elusive wildlife or fast action.
*16 megapixels in NORMAL mode. After two periods of continuous shooting, the next burst of continuous shooting can be started faster than with the P900 even though the number of frames is decreased.
The COOLPIX P950 can record high-quality 4K UHD/30p movies across its entire zoom range, from 24mm all the way up to 2000mm. In Movie manual mode, you can completely control exposure and aperture settings for footage that looks just how you intended. AE can also be locked, even when ambient brightness changes significantly during movie recording. You can even choose the zoom speed during video recording by selecting one of three options with the side zoom control.
With RAW (NRW) file format support, full-resolution still images can be saved that contain all the setting information from the time of the shot, allowing post-capture image editing of white balance, exposure and COOLPIX Picture Controls without affecting the original.
Dynamic time-lapse movies of landscapes and more can be automatically created from a series of still images captured in interval timer shooting. Just select one of five scene mode options and the most appropriate interval is automatically set.
Bulb and Time settings have been added to the COOLPIX P950’s shutter speed options to further customize the look of long exposure images, handy for taking pictures of fireworks, night landscapes, stars, or car light trails. The maximum exposure time for both the Bulb and Time settings is 60 seconds, with ISO sensitivity available up to 1600.
The COOLPIX P950 is equipped with a brilliant dual viewing system, featuring a super high resolution, 2359K-dot eye level electronic viewfinder (EVF), plus a large, bright, 3" 921K-dot Vari-angle LCD display with approximately 99% frame coverage. Flip out the Vari-angle LCD to creatively compose photos and videos from unique perspectives—overhead, down low or just comfortably in front of you. Bring the COOLPIX P950 up to your eye and the display automatically switches to the EVF for a beautiful and accurate high-resolution view.
The Focus-mode selector makes switching between MF and AF easy. In addition to the Snap-back zoom and Side zoom controls, the Side dial is conveniently located to control shooting settings. In MF mode, the dial is used to focus manually. When set to AF, it can be assigned to control exposure compensation, white balance or ISO sensitivity. For advanced shooters, a PSAM mode dial is available right on top of the camera, much like a DSLR. Select the COOLPIX P950's aperture and shutter speed to control your shots exactly as you want them. But you don't have to understand exposure controls to get great results—the COOLPIX P950 can do all that work for you.
An accessory terminal and accessory shoe let you expand the camera’s functionality with optional accessories like the DF-M1 Dot Sight, which helps keep track of small, distant subjects like birds and aircraft during super-telephoto shooting. Additionally, various accessories like flashes, microphones and more can be used to extend the capabilities of the COOLPIX P950 even further.
Bird-watching mode and Moon mode are independent of Scene Modes, and can be selected right from the Mode Dial. When taking shots of wild birds or the moon, these modes help you get great results without any complicated setting changes.
Images taken with the COOLPIX P950’s super-telephoto zoom look so amazing, you’ll probably want to share them right away. SnapBridge lets you do just that. Images are seamlessly transferred to your compatible smart device as you take them—ready impress your followers social media. Once paired with the camera, images can be automatically transferred without even starting up the app for added convenience.
