It's a great camera for the focal length that it has. Works great in astrophotography, I got some great shots of the recent lunar eclipse. As far as working with a tripod a geared tripod head is a must to keep the moon, planets and stars in the frame. The VR works great even in the longer focal lengths hand held. Can't wait to try it on some wildlife photography.

I had the P900 for about 10 years and used it daily! I was happy to see that a newer, better version of this super zoom camera came out. I ordered it instantly! I enjoy filming wildlife, and the celestial bodies, the zoom on this camera is amazing. I really like being able to manually adjust my lighting while filming, and the manual focus works great! I have yet to find anything I dislike about the Nikon P1100. Unboxing link below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwP5ZzFtvNY&t=1s

This is the camera I've waited a long time for. My photos are so much clearer, sharper and cleaner. I just took some great photos of the Orange Moon, without the need of a tripod!!! I am a wildlife photographer, with my genre being Florida Birds. My past camera bag has three lenses that includes a 150-600mm lens that weighs more than my complete Nikon Coolpix P1100. Obviously, I'm having a blast with this camera and I would encourage anyone thinking of changing cameras, to seriously look at the Nikon Coolpix P1100, you won't be sorry!

They call it a beast and it is quite large. It is an amazing camera, but you need to know the sensor is on the smaller size. This is best for birding or taking long distance photos.

Great camera for astrophotography
By ROBERT D.
It's a great camera for the focal length that it has. Works great in astrophotography, I got some great shots of the recent lunar eclipse. As far as working with a tripod a geared tripod head is a must to keep the moon, planets and stars in the frame. The VR works great even in the longer focal lengths hand held. The Nikon COOLPIX P1100 is a power-packed mega-zoom camera that turns distant dreams into close-up realities. With an insane optical zoom and a host of cutting-edge features, this is no ordinary point-and-shoot. In your hands, it's a limitless adventure machine.
With a mind-blowing 24-3000mm equivalent zoom, this beast can pull in details you never even knew existed. And if you’re hungry for the cosmos, engage its 250x Dynamic Fine Zoom (6000mm equivalent).
Dual Detect Optical VR image stabilization promises you sharp and blur-free images, compensating for movement like a built-in tripod. Equivalent to shooting 4 stops faster, it keeps both photos and 4K Ultra HD videos smooth.
Capture ultra-wide landscapes, dreamy portraits with buttery background blur, or even macro-style close-ups from just 1 cm away. Choose between JPEG or .NRW (RAW) formats, and let your creativity run wild.
When in Bird-Watching Mode, your camera settings instantly optimize for fast and stunning captures of our feathered friends. No more fiddling — just snap and admire.
With a minimum focusing distance of just 1 cm, this mode brings the tiniest wonders of nature into crystal-clear focus. Get those intricate textures, minuscule creatures, or the sparkle of morning dew in vivid detail.
The customizable control ring puts your preferred settings on speed dial. Use it for manual focus, or assign it to adjust exposure compensation, white balance, or ISO sensitivity.
Take your photography to new heights with external gear! The COOLPIX P1100 is compatible with an external microphone, Speedlight flash, the DF-M1 Dot Sight, and more (sold separately).
