Plusses: Runs on AA batteries. Full complement of exposure modes (P,A,T,M. 12x optical zoom. Very good image stabilization. Cheap, rugged, and versatile. Minuses: Slow (not for action photos). Noisy sensor at ISOs above 200. Some lens vignetting at longer zoom ranges. Weak flash (like most pocket cameras), but also very slow to charge due to AA batteries.

I would not buy anything else other than a Canon camera. This model gives you professional settings but easy to use. Fantastic camera...!!!!

I love taking pictures and have multiple cameras for when I want to take extreme photos. However as we all know phone cameras are not the best quality so I wanted something I could use daily and have handy for the nice picture on the spot. This does just that great zoom and pixels and easy download. The pictures come out better then what the screen on the back shows when you print them. Would also recommend a cannon photo printer so you can wirelessly print photo from your camera, no fuss and easy!!!

This camera has an excellent zoom, many features including black and white function. The flash is easy to use and The quality of colour and focus for an average "Point and Click" user is excellent. For an average family this is the best camera I have ever used.

I got this camera to replace a failing Canon Powershot A470 that started to have some autofocus problems and just didn't autofocus the way I remember it focusing. So far I'm very happy with my A470 replacement, however I do find some issues in this camera I can forgive for what this camera is. It doesn't have MMC card support, something my A470 has, but due to the nature of the cards being very unknown and now defunct in the industry, I can understand why this was removed. However, losing MMC support did have some advantages. For example, instead of MMC support, this camera has EyeFi support in place, which is nice because EyeFi cards are wireless and I can sync my pictures from my computer without using a USB cable or USB card reader to pull photos off the camera, so I think this will be a nice feature in the future if I ever need WiFi in this camera. On top of that, while it's no flash/low light performance is a little weak compared to other cameras I have used in the past and even own, it's expected this will not perform as well as a DSLR, but is very close to DSLR performance. The battery thing is the only real thing I don't think reviewers of this camera understand, and give this camera a bad reputation. These cameras are not meant to use Alkaline batteries, they have to use NiMh batteries or Lithium batteries. I have not tried Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries in this, so I can not speak for if those work, or even fit the camera so these may also be a viable option if you can fit them in this camera and it takes them. Alkaline batteries do not last due to the flash capacitor killing them. I have tried them in this camera and I have seen how much power they normally have left, and the battery is still good for other things, it just didn't have enough to run the camera. These cameras demand too much power to use Alkaline batteries in them for long periods of time. I also don't really like how more controls are put in software on this, coming from the A470 which had quite a few buttons on it that weren't in software, however I have seen worse where everything except the review button and one button controls the modes in software, so I can overlook the nature of more software implementation on this. This also doesn't include a Composite video cable anymore, so if yours lacks this don't worry about it, it's not included in this camera. However it still includes a USB cable, even tough I don't need it. On Windows XP and above, you really don't need the software to pull your photos on this. Just plug it in and pull them off, since these OSes have a generic Canon camera driver built in. For Mac users, use iPhoto to pull your pictures off since Apple has Canon drivers built in to iPhoto. You can also use a card reader if you don't want to mess with Canon generic drivers or iPhoto. For Windows 2000 and below, use a USB card reader and that will work out for you. Linux users should use a card reader. This software problem has always been on Canon cameras for years, so this is nothing new. Some cameras might require the Canon software on Windows XP and newer in some rare cases. Other then a few features removed, and this camera being impossible to use without Canon software or a photo program that sees cameras, or even generic drivers in Windows XP, it's not a bad camera in any way

This camera is my first Canon Digital, and I received it as a birthday gift. Unfortunately, I cannot even take 10 pictures without needing new batteries, which is frankly ridiculous. I received an extended return/service plan with this and I will definitely be taking it back. In this day of camera phones that take great pictures and have long battery life I cant even believe anyone would think this camera is OK. Im so disappointed. Ive tried to bring this to concerts and special occasions, but I literally have to change the batteries 3 or 4 times in a couple hours!!! So I end up just using my 4 year old phone that has no adjustability features and still manages to take just as good quality shots and lasts days and days on the same battery charge.

This is my third Canon point and shoot camera, upgrading each time, and my favorite camera thus far. My first digital was not a Canon and the power button broke within a year of use. I have stuck with the Canon brand, upgrading to newer models with higher pixels. The feature settings are easy to use - we have enjoyed many a laugh over the fish eye pictures. The color accent and color swap features bring a 'story' to my photos. The videos are sharp and clear. The zoom is great for extreme floral close-ups and not-so-bad for distant landscape close-up shots. I carry an extra set of lithium batteries in my camera case, but only as a safeguard backup. I take over a hundred pictures at a time with great battery life. There are a lot of features built in to this camera which I hope everyone knows about and tries them out. Great camera for the price. It goes with me most everywhere. I see a Rebel in my future but only as a companion for my SX150.

I have been an avid Canon user and fan for more than 20 years and still have several of the A-Series cameras that I still use. I specifically need to have cameras where batteries are widely available since I do a lot of travelling and don't want to mess with power adaptors for charging or expensive lithium batteries. That being said, the battery life on this camera is horrible, partly because unlike the similar A-series cameras, this one uses two rather than four batteries. I can only assume this is to make the camera appear lighter. Given that I have to bring several sets of batteries to make sure I don't miss a shot, my load is actually no lighter. The optics on this model do not seem as good as with the older models but I haven't been able to see any details about whether they actually changed to a cheaper manufacturer than the older ones (which I think used Zeiss lenses. Even though they are higher resolution, the images are not as crisp as with my old 4MP camera. As with the older models, the camera has plenty of factory settings for different scenes, but still allows you to manually control all of the settings. This is important because the automatic white balancing can be a bit frustrating if you are in a mixed light situation and do not force the camera to set its balance and focus in the right area of the scene. I would love it if Canon went back to having cameras where you could add other lenses (telephoto, wide-angle, various filters) by unscrewing the ring on the front. There are some aftermarket options for some of the cameras, but most use some kind of magnetic or other loose attachment that does not work very well. I'm guessing that there weren't enough users to support this feature, so they dropped it on their mid-range cameras. Overall, I am happy with the camera and can deal with some of the more annoying aspects, but will likely be looking for one with better battery life soon. I just can't justify generating that much battery waste given how many pictures I take. I'll probably still look at the Canons first, but if the new mid-range cameras haven't corrected some of these issues, I may have to give another brand a shot.

Everytime I turn the camera on I have to reset the date and time other wise it goes back to the factory setting of 1/1/1980 every single time. Action shots come out blurry and I have tried every setting.

sharp photos. long zoom. uses "double A" batteries. i did the usual with a new camera. close ups, long zoom, wide angle, video. a noted reviewer on a major product review site panned this camera as sluggish and battery hungry. i disagree. good battery life and quick enough for snap shooting. it is slightly larger and heavier than most point and shoots but the images are much sharper and cleaner. get this on sale while you can.

I hate this camera! I have 3 kids and don't think I have been able to take one good picture of them. Even using the shutter speed button, every picture is blurry. It is very particular on lighting too. Many pictures have a horrible glare to it. Mine also says that I need to change the batteries, and then I turn it back on and the batteries will last another month. Garbage!!!

I have heard a lot of complaints about battery life. I always use the Ultimate Lithium batteries or rechargeable batteries. I do not leave batteries in camera when not using. I always remove them at night and put them in when I know I am going to be taking pictures. Some people complain about the flash recycle taking so long. I find it is pretty fast at recharging the flash. I find I don't often need to use flash with the low light setting. The zoom is great when taking pictures as you don't have to stand on top of someone to keep clutter out of the picture. I use the zoom to cut out the clutter. I have only had the camera for two days, but it is a keeper. The pictures come out very clear. I believe that of all the cameras I own, this is going to be my favorite, meaning it will go everyplace with me. I have another camera that has like a 36 x zoom that I use when I will be out taking landscape pictures. I do like that this takes AA batteries so if I run out of power unexpectedly, I can always run to the nearest store and be taking pictures again in a few minutes.

Great great little camera. I carry it in my purse all the time..never know when a photo op comes up. my children are grown and gone, but this wld be great camera for moms/dads to keep in diaper bags, to never miss a moment as the video is great too. I have seen many reviews complaining of battery life. This is not a camera to throw in 2AA alkaline batts and think they will last 12 months. I use only LITHIUM batteries in mine, battery life lasts and lasts (I take alot of photos and video). of course I always have a backup pair of batteries as well, I never want to miss a shot! I am looking forward to moving up to an EOS camera, but will still keep this gem in my purse for everyday. Only neg I have, like others..takes the flash forever to charge up, then recharge again after a shot.

I was looking for the Canon SX200 when I came across the SX150 at a local store. I was told by the sales person the camera was similar to the SX200, but less in price. I examined the SX150 camera in the store and was impressed by how well it worked, so I purchased one. What I was unaware of was the " very short " life of AA Alkaline batteries. The batteries that came with the camera lasted about 20 minutes at best as I took some practice stills and some video sceens. I put in a set of new batteries, same result. I will try using rechargable batteries. As for the camera, it performs quite well - the video is very good and clear, very detailed and sharp. All considered, I wish I had purchased the SX260 - for better battery life and HDMI output for video.

Awesome camera. Replaced another name brand I had for a few years. The old one I had could not even come close to Canon. I use my Canon every day. It never fails or lets me down. when i bought it I purchased a two year extended warranty. I love this camera and my wife does to. Rechargeable batteries work great. Every feature the camera offers is great. I will be purchasing one of Canon's top more expensive cameras this year 2013. This company is my favorite camera maker. yes I have used other camera makers, but none compare to Canon.

Love this camera. Received it just a few weeks ago but used it thru the holidays and it is just packed with features. The battery life is a common complaint however you don't have to use regular AA. The camera also takes NiMH batteries which are rechargeable. A set of NiMH batteries and a charger is very inexpensive, so don't let the battery issue be a concern. The lens is great, pictures clear. The camera has an "auto" feature for general point and shoot picture taking but there is also a "manual" feature that lets you control certain aspects. Overall a great find.

The camera is of a design that offers much more than just an "automatic snap shot camera" in that you can control both exposure and focus manually when needed. One unlisted advantage of the SX150IS that I've found is that when used in the "W" mode (16 x 9) there is an effective added magnification of close to 15% due to a certain amount of "cut off" on the sides of image. This adds to the 33% effective magnification of the image (3771 x 2104). This increases the total apparent magnification from 336 mm to 504 mm. Very useful for taking pictures of birds and other small animals such as squirrels.

I bought this to replace a previous cannon camera that broke and it does not compare. The zoom is incredible but that's it. I have used it 3x and replaced batteries each time witch I am not use to the last camera came with a rechargeable batteries. The shutter time is ok if you do not take alot of pictures. I have missed alot of pictures including my mother opening her Christmas gift because I had to wait for the flash to charge. I will be returning to get another cannon with faster shutter speed and a rechargeable battery.

This was my second Power Shot camera and it had the same problem that I had with the first one. I bought this one, but the lens messed up after the first time it fell on my carpet soon after I got it. I understand that it shouldn't be dropped, but it shouldn't mess up on a slight fall onto carpet. The first PowerShot I had took a hard hit and broke, but this one was not a hard fall so it should not have messed it up. It is a good camera if you are super careful with it.

I love this camera so far! im 15 and photography is just a hobby i got this as an early christmas present so i dont know how much my friend payed for it but the price on here seems reasonable! even though i have only had it for 3 days i love it, its perfect for taking scenic photographs (which is what i do) it doesnt really perform well when taking pictures of fast moving objects (i;e football games, track meets) but if your just a hobbyist this is the perfect camera for you!

I love this camera. It takes amazing pictures. i could stand in my backyard and take a picture of a plane flyingby and could see which airline it is. The only problem i have with it is that it takes A LOT of battery power. i could charge my batteries all night and when i put in the batteries it says battery low on the camera. also it doesn't have a fast shutter speed for like sport events. trying to take a picture at a sports event is difficult. but other than those 2 i would definitly recommend this to a friend

This camera takes great photos. It has a large, three inch viewing screen which also acts as the view finder. The camera uses two readily available AA batteries. No expensive rechargeable batteries. I am slightly worried about the battery door construction. Have seen other cameras with this type door that will not latch. All in all, a GREAT value.

Its one of the best camera available for this price range.12x zoom and image stablilization works perfectly.1cm macro is another important feature of this camera. Poor light perfomance and short battery life are the main drawbacks of sx150. This camera would be lot better if it use cmos sensor instead of ccd lens

Nice Camera
By Canon U.
I purchased this SX150is due to the optical zoom and the pixel resolution; although I'd like to have seen 14 and 14 similar to my SX120is 10 and 10; hint, hint. My bigger reason for this purchase is being able to use the double-A batteries; I use to buy the SX5, 10's and 20's-series until they went away from the double-A batteries - bad move for CANON for me to desire that series. Can't beat replaceability and availability when battery needs arise. Would have really liked having the swivel vi...

Canon's PowerShot Sx150 IS Digital Camera (Red) is a convenient way to capture the memories unfolding all around you. As is one of the hallmarks of the point-and-shoot genre, the Sx150 is small and lightweight. Take it everywhere you go and be ready for any spur-of-the-moment photo ops!
Let's take a look at the specs first. The Sx150 IS presents with a 14.1Mp resolution. That translates into detailed images that keep their quality even when blown up as large prints. The camera's 1/2.3" CCD sensor works together with Canon's DIGIC 4 Image Processor for the capture and efficient recording of those stills and of the camera's 720p HD video.
The high def video function is paired up with stereo recording. That makes for movies worthy of sharing with family and friends on the big screen, otherwise known as your HDTV. The Sx150 IS's video features don't end there, however. The camera sports a dedicated movie button for starting and stopping recording, a wind filter for cutting down on wind noise while shooting and a 12x optical zoom for clear, high-quality close-ups. Additionally, the camera also supports Apple's iFrame format which is compatible with both Mac and Windows computers, eliminating the need for conversions.
Of course, you're going nowhere if your camera doesn't have a high-powered lens. The Sx150 comes with a Genuine Canon 12x Zoom Lens. Aside from putting 12x optical zoom at your fingertips, this lens features a focal range of 28-336mm (35mm equivalent). That means even the tightest group shot or the sweeping vistas can all be captured with this one lens. And no digital camera is worth its salt these days without image stabilization. The Sx150 IS has an optical image stabilizer with 6 specific modes for capturing the steadiest pictures possible.
On the back of the camera you'll find a 3.0" LCD for composing and reviewing shots, not to mention navigating through the menu. As a side note, the menu provides access to speakers of 27 languages, making this Canon accessible to peoples across the world. Other features worth mentioning here include the convenience of AA battery power and a built-in flash.
Now, when it comes to shooting modes point-and-shoot is fine, but sometimes you just want to express yourself more fully. With the Sx150 IS you can. The camera provides a myriad of choices which can be found the Smart AUTO function. The ultimate mode of course is Manual, which lets you have complete control of exposure, aperture and shutter speed. Additional modes such as Foliage, Snow, Fisheye and Poster Effect, among others, give you fun and unique ways to show off your artistic inclinations.
