I use the speedlite with two other speedlites remotely fired in my studio. this used one looks like my older one. Cannot tell them apart.

I would have been satisfied with the rating of E that described this flash, but when I received it the condition was "Like New" not a blemish in sight. I couldn't be more satisfied.

I am a wedding photographer and I employ different styles of lighting but there are times that I must have a flash on top of my camera to make sure I get shots that I need. This flash does the job. I have two of these already but I am using them all the time and wanted to have another back up. I like this older model because it is strong and easy to use. Plus I can get a third party foot adaptor for it and easily add a 3.5mm cable port on it so I can use that to run to my off camera strobe trigger. These fill the need I have and are much cheaper than buy the newest Canon flash.

The 580 EX compliments my other 580 EX which I use along with two 540EX's on wireless triggers. Thanks adorama for all my gear.

The Canon 580EX flash is my primary work horse, and its lived up to its reputation. I need to purchase two more in the near future. It compliments two 540 EX flashes that are mounted on two photo senors and work terriffic in manual mode. All my work is via manual flash photograpghy. I finally used the 580EX in program mode on my Canon EOS 1D MK 111 and perform flawlessly.

This flash has been great. It's really helped to use as fill or just use for snap shots.

Great flash, but has a couple of shortcomings that the new version corrects. If you don't need a pc sync port or weather resistance, then the 580EX is a more affordable alternative to the 580EX II.

Great flash. Extremely nice for owners of a 430EX who want to advance their photography and have a wireless off camera flash. It's actually cheaper to buy an additional 580EX than to PocketWizards. My one disappointment is that I have a lot more problems with exposure consistency using the 580EX than I had with my 430EX (both on a Canon Rebel XT). I regularly have pictures overexposed or underexposed by up to one step.

Aside from being great for studio and portraits it is great for macro work as well. Using a sync cord and a lumi quest gives great results with macro work. You can use a small aperture and fast shutterspeed to get a sharp image. Just make sure the flash hits the area you are photographing or your image will be too underexposed.

It is big and heavy, but what a difference over that tiny strobe that pops out of the camera. If it is a shot that matters, this is the flash to use.

Excellent flash unit that I'm using on a Canon Digital Rebel XT. It performs as advertised, and really adds to the scope of my photography. I would not recommend this flash unit for a beginning photographer - there are simpler units available for less money.

I have had consistent results with this flash. The results I get by using it as fill-flash are just incredible and consistent. Whether I set the ratio, or I leave it on automatic, it provides very pleasing results.

Flash met all expectations except for a consistent result when the flash was primary element of lighting. Results were not terrible, but not quite what was hoped for. I believe that this is a result more from the Canon E-TTL II flash exposure system, than from any deficiency in the flash itself.

Very powerfull flash output. Excellent bounce flash flexibility. Would like to be able to turn off the pre-flash in the AUTO mode.

I use two (2) strobes on tripods with the Canon remote for "on site" environmental portraits. This is my first venture into artificial lighting after nearly forty (40) years of available light photography. I am very happy with the compactness of the two (2) flashes, the lightweight tripods, and just a camera and a couple of lenses. I'm really just beginning to learn the many approaches that can be used with this set up.

I love this flash. It's pretty much set and forget. Great TTL auto exposures. Manual is easy to set, too. I also love the wireless convenience. I have the hot shoe IR transmitter and use the two often for off-camera flash. The included shoe lets me set the unit almost anywhere--on horizontal surfaces or bolted to a light stand. The swivel flash head can go in almost any direction. Battery replacement is aided by internal springs which let you "pop up and catch" the spent batteries even if they're pointing up. The builtin popup catchlight diffuser is also handy.

Very accurate, predictable. I bought my first 580 almost two years and bought a 2nd last year. I am now contemplating a 3rd! Wonderful flash, would highly recommend!

The Canon 580ex is the ultimate flash for the 30D. This flash rectcles so fast that it even works in the burst mode.

I use the flash to take pictures of ballroom Dance competition and Dance events. It works great as a filling flash and I had taken very consisting pictures. It works great with my 28 - 200 zoom lens. Best money I spent.

Best flash I own, so many possibilites with it!!if you don't have one you should. My only complaint is the plastic shoe, it breaks if the camera is dropped, oops that has happened to me twice, I guess it is a plus to replace a $15.00 part as opposed to something more expensive, but still a hassle when it breaks, I have seen Nikons are made out of metal. wouldn't buy a Nikon, I'm just sayin'

A powerful flash with a maximum guide number of 58/191 at ISO 100 in meters/feet (at 105mm focal length), This Speedlite replaces the 550EX and features faster recycling, more consistent color and enhanced controls
The Speedlite 580EX flash is compatible with Canon's E-TTL II (Evaluative Through The Lens) auto exposure technology. When combined with a compatible Canon camera, E-TTL II utilizes subject distance and other information that automatically modifies flash power, resulting in accurate flash exposure regardless of subject size, reflectance, or photographic composition.
The Speedlite 580EX flash is compatible with all film and digital EOS cameras as well as G-series and Pro-1 PowerShot digital cameras. The flash includes two features especially for digital photography. EOS 20D and EOS-1D Mark II** digital SLR users will especially appreciate the Speedlite 580EX flash's ability to auto-compensate for the size of the CMOS sensor, and zoom the flash head automatically to match the effective focal length conversion. This feature allows the Speedlite 580EX flash to maximize the efficiency of its light distribution and produce more flashes from a set of batteries. When used with the EOS 20D or 1D Mark II** digital SLR cameras, the flash and camera communicate to make fine adjustments to auto white balance by electronically monitoring the charge level of the batteries and the duration of each flash burst, resulting in consistently accurate color for every shot.
Smaller, lighter, faster and more powerful than its predecessor, the Speedlite 550EX flash, Canon has further enhanced the new modelby reducing the full-power recycling time by about 25 percent, while increasing the maximum Guide Number power rating by about 50 percent.
The new flash unit provides photographers with intuitive controls. Mimicking the style found on Canon's line of popular EOS Digital SLRs, the 580EX model's new control dial, SET button and a high-speed sync / shutter curtain synchronization button put all major functions at the fingertips of the photographer.
The Speedlite 580EX Flash features an AF-assist beam, which is now better matched to the different focusing point arrangements of various EOS SLRs, compared to earlier models. The unit includes a swiveling flash head that turns a full 180 degrees in both directions, while a single release lock controls tiltand swivel adjustments. A wide-angle diffuser found on the Speedlite 580EX flashcovers focal lengths as short as 14mm. The flash also features a new catchlight reflector for optimal lighting quality during bounce-flash photography. The Speedlite 580EX flash features a total of 14 Custom Functions that provide maximum control over various flash functions such as recycling with external power and auto-zooming to match sensor size.
