I have had this for a couple of years and all in all I love the alarm clock. I do have issues with the freezing when the alarm was supposed to go off. I have just done the firm ware update and I hope this solves the issue. But now I can not change the year on the date. It is stuck on 2009. this is very frustrating. Does anyone know how to fix this?

No select all option to copy photos to internal memory. Wallpaper don't get loaded from external memory. Really bad user menu. for this much money they should put a calendar into it. too much button click to get something up and running. iPhone videos can't be controlled from sony. Not that good speakers.

I have owned a lot of Sony products, I will rethink buying anything from Sony these days. This clock/ipod dock cost me over $200.00 CDN. I bought it for my oldest son for X-Mas and the clock does not work even after the firmware update to 1.10. I called Sony and they want to charge me for the fix, something clearly is a defect and they won't come good on it. I hope you read these reviews Sony. Your Bad!!!

Had I read the reviews, I would not have purchased this yesterday. I was very pleased with the design and features, but I quickly found it had operational problems including these two issues which a firmware update did seem to fix: •Resolves an issue where the ICF-CL75iP may freeze or stop responding. •Resolves an issue where the alarm may not sound at the time set under certain circumstances. Some of the other reviewers say updates didn't fix their problems, but reviews before 9/29/2011 wouldn't include the latest update, so it's hard to know how to take them. I have a couple weeks to return it, so I'll just keep a close eye on how it works. LOVE THE FEATURES, however.

I own 2 of these. The clock freezes on both of them about 2 or 3 times a month and alarm doesn't go off. Have done the firmware updates and still have problems!! I love these, but they have bugs. After calling sony, they will do nothing about it except offer to charge you for repair. I have only owned them since June, 2011 and its end of October.....Sony says TOOOOO BAD, out of warranty. SONY, HEAR ME.......I WILL NOT BUY SONY AGAIN UNTIL YOU MAKE THIS RIGHT!!!!! I should have read the reviews before buying but it is an alarm clock. Stupid me!!!

I've had this alarm for almost two years now and there are a lot of ways that i do like this. I love the screen and the customizable backround, as well as the fact i could record the alarms to be loud and annoying to wake me up, being a heavy sleeper. The white noise sounds that come with it are pretty awesome to. But with how much it cost though, it should have come with a remote. Plus, the screen only shuts off if theres nothing going on. I am one who needs the radio or white noise to fall asleep, and it's a pain that everynight I have to cover the screen just to make my room dark, despite the dimmer settings. Plus sometimes it'll freeze up and I'l have to unplug it to reset it. I find i usually have to wait at least 30 min beifore I can plug it back in and actually have it start up. Today I waited many hours and it still won't start, but hopefully tech support will be able to help me. I tried to go onto the website another review had suggested for updates, and I went to try and download them, but when i went to pick my OS it was just a blank bar that dropped down and I couldn't go any further. While it has it's annoyances, I do really like the clock, and I haven't really seen anything else similar so I really do like it.

I have several major problems with this device. 1) It does not have shuffle. Sony's CD players back in the 1990s had shuffle (I owned one!). Every iPod since what, 2005 or earlier, has shuffle. But this device does not. It cannot randomly play songs from your USB or SD storage medium (or presumably, from onboard memory). 2) Lack of a shuffle function causes varying degrees of boredom with regard to music selections. For example, playing from a USB or SD device yields your files in filesystem order - not horrible, but monotonous. On the other hand, when selecting one of these devices for music to use for your alarm, you have to pick a SINGLE FILE... so you wake up to the same song every morning. Not really what I would hope for. 3) The interface is too complex and insufficiently explained. While you can turn off the built-in images (others here have complained you can't), it is, for example, fairly confusing as how you start a photo slide show from a USB or SD device. It can be done, it's just... more difficult than it needed to be. 4) Finally, the built-in memory is mostly useless. To use it one must select files on other memory devices (like USB or SD, etc) one at a time. But these days people have hundreds if not thousands of mp3s and photos... so not MINIMALLY having a "select all" feature for copying is ridiculous. I for one will not take the time to select each one of my 450 favorite mp3s for transfer to the device; I doubt many others will either. [Conclusion] It is my fondest hope that, since this is a software device (i.e. updateable firmware), Sony will either correct some of these problems, or will release their firmware specs to the OSS community, who surely could improve the device considerably. But I am not interested in waiting for a device that works great, I would like one now... so I will be returning this product to the store. Better luck next time, Sony.

FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW: Sony releases software updates for almost all of their products. Go to http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/index.pl, and this will take you to a page where you type your model number. Type ICF-CL75iP in the model # box and hit "continue," now you see something that says System Updates/Firmware. You now will click on the system software update link. This takes you to a page telling you how to install the update software. It's all there. Excellent Product

I would have given this product One Star until I thought to get the Firmware update (1.07) from the Sony support site. Today I would give it 5 stars but I have to take points off for the fact that Sony let defective firmware get out in the first place. I bought mine 7 months ago, so all the inventory on the shelf Now probably has the good firmware version.

Cheaply made. the buttons ceased to work including the volume control. This is the third of the Dream Machines I have purchased and they all failed within 6 months. Don't bother.

Won't stay on all the time. If I'm able to get it to turn on, it works great, but it works about 1% of the time. What adds to the disappointment is that this was a gift for my wife.

It keeps freezing. I have to unplug it every other day. You can't rely on the alarm. It keeps failing. It looks very nice but it does not work at all. Specially, when you pay more than $100

There have already been numerous reviews written about the major defects so I won't go into a ton of details on that part, but will touch upon a couple of other nitpicky things that along with the defects, are causing me to take this device back to the store. As with others, the alarm on mine also stopped working - in my case, only days after setting up the clock, and even after I put in the latest firmware update correctly. So I won't go into more on that - the point is, on many of these units, the alarm will not work and/or is very unreliable, and this is supposed to be an alarm clock (basically), right? Sigh. More: The "No battery No problem!" statement on their box is misleading. You cannot put a 9V or 2 AA batteries in the Sony to back the whole thing up in the event of a power outage. It uses a nonstandard "coin" type battery that only backs up the alarms you have set and that's it - and since the alarms don't work - well... The "Nature Sounds" feature was one reason for me to buy this, but there are only a few sounds in the machine. The Ocean Waves track is ruined by the sound of screeching Seagulls in the background that sound like a rusty spring on a door. The Bird track has a VERY loud bird blaring into the microphone. The rain track sounds like bacon being fried in a pan. An "Underwater" track is far from relaxing and sounds like you're drowning underwater - only the sound of the brook/creek is somewhat soothing, but that's it. No "white noise", or crickets, or waterfall - things commonly found in many nature sounds machines. Not long ago I bought a Sony DSLR and it was defective out of the box. A neighbor recently bought a Sony LCD TV and it broke within 3 weeks, and the replacement had a defective screen. It's a shame to see a company that was once known VERY welll for the quality of it's products to have gone downhill so far. One can assume that with the recent disasters in Japan, these issues will only get worse as they try to rebuild facilities and manufacturing schedules. This experience has turned me "off" to Sony products, so I'm done with them, and at least regarding this "Dream Machine", suggest you avoid the nightmare.

Sony was reaching a little too far with this item. An alarm clock should above all else be a good alarm clock. In trying to design this to do everything under the sun - Sony forgot that rule. 3 of the past 5 mornings this has failed to sound the radio to wake me. Thanks to another really annoying feature (the screen changing to full bright while in the alarm/snooze cycle) I've only woken up 15 minutes late. The screen changes to full brightness when the alarm sounds. I have to cover the screen with the owners manual after snoozing the alarm because there is no way to dim the screen while the alarm is snoozed. Please understand - this thing is really bright! I have a battery icon on the display now. I guess after 1 month of use the internal lithium battery has died. I've only had 1 instance of a lock up during the last 30 days. No Alarm - no screen - etc. I had to unplug to reset. There is no dock insert for the iPhone 4 included. I use the one that is closest but there have been several times when I've woken up to a dead iPhone because it didn't charge. I wanted to love this $150 alarm clock (who spends that kind of money on an alarm clock?). I am returning this to Costco today while I can still get my money back. A $10 Timex makes a more reliable alarm clock. It's really a shame.

Worked for less than a year and it broke. Won't even turn on!! The clock froze, so when I plugged it back in, it never turned back on. I was told the warranty is only 90 days, when the product manual says 1 year. Sounds like a bunch of bull to me! Don't waste you're money. This is way to expensive for it to break within one year. The customer service reps were worthless too!! They said sorry, nothing you can do about it. Just buy a new one. UMM, NO!!! Sony should be ashamed to even have this product out for customers.

Never thought the most basic function of the clock would be the problem! This thing freezes at least once a month which requires unplugging. I'm reading about a firmware update. Guess I'll spend the next hour figuring it out and fixing it. Menus are way too drawn out.

Purchased this clock in August of 2010, had first issue at the end of September 2010. The TIME froze & would not update. After speaking with TECH they informed me these clocks have an IC Error problem. They had me update the Firmware from 1.01 to 1.05 it worked....they told me if further occurance appeared, replacement would be in order. It has acted up since DEC/JAN intermittently. Now in March it wont even power on. Tried updating to Firmware 1.08 with no resolution. I call in to follow up on my case, SONY tells me I am basically out of luck with no warranty coverage on the unit. IT ONLY CARRIES A 90DAY WARRANTY (in which I exhibited this issue within those guidelines yet my acct wasn't noted of the replacement being mentioned). I would GREATLY consider another product or brand before wasting this large of a purchase on something that wont even last a year.....

I've been late to work more in the last year than I have in my entire life time... This stupid thing is going into the canal today. It randomly crashes/freezes and thus never sets off it's alarm... I've applied the firmware update that supposedly 'fixes' this problem, but uhm... no it didn't.. I've verified the update by the version showing on the display... Too bad.. other than that it's a nice machine.. just sucks as a reliable alarm clock

Who wants a $150 alarm clock, that can't be relied upon to wake you up in the morning. After numerous firmware updates, this clock still crashes about once a month and requires the power to be cycled. Stay away from this product if you need a reliable wake-up.

This is a great dock with a nice and easy to use interface. Using a USB Drive or SD Card you can transfer music, photos and videos to the dock or just watch/listen to them straight from your memory device. This fits all iPod Nanos, iPod Touchs and iPhones. All the problems such as not being able to delete original photos have been fixed with a firmware update. My only concerns are that the AM Radio cord for the antennea is a bit to short, its not a huge problem. Also the Snooze button is also the brightness so when you press it in the morning it will get brighter. Overall it's a great dock and works perfectly even if you have a case on your iDevice.

Great device, does more than I thought. I got it on sale at Amazon for under $90 and decided try it around x-mas. Got he 1.06 upgrade soon after. Everything works great with 1.06. IPod touch 2nd and 3rd gens play with no problems. Best of all the USB port in the back can charge! So, I can charge 2 IPods at once. Then I got an HTC smartphone, and the USB port in the back can charge, play music from, and download music and pictures from it. Haven't tried video yet. I have had no problems with the alarm, and it seems more responsive with firmware 1.06. I wish it accepted upgrades from a USB stick. I may buy another if they go on a deep sale price again. I just wish it had wireless for DLNA connections. they put that in the Dash though. It does what it says, so no points off.

Received this as a Christmas gift. Today, the clock display completely disappeared. The photo slide show froze on one picture. The machine won't respond to any buttons. Worst of all, the alarm never sounded and I overslept. Unplugging the unit seemed to reboot it and it's functioning for now. I'm terribly disappointed as I can never trust this alarm clock again, which makes it completely useless.

dont waste youe money on this one, 90 day warenty, will malfunction, they will tell you to updat the firmware, and it will malfunction at a later date, after it pass out of warranty. the display will only show the background and no clock, and alarm will not work, dont spend money on an alarm clock that is not reliable. other fetures are nice, but what good is it, if the alarm malfunctions.i have had mine over a year, done all the firmware upgrades.

I really hate this expensize piece of hardware. While it may bea nice unit to recharge an iPod you can't recharge your iPhone at all and the unit is about useless as an alarm clock. I purchased these units one year ago and have had nothing but problems. The firmware is a joke as the engineers obviosuly did not test it since it does not fix the freezing of the clock. The Alarm Clock is completely unreliable! I am very disappointed at Sony's response to this issue since it is such a widespread issue. If you look online at the reviews even here on Sony's site over 75% of them site the freezing as a MAJOR issue!

Love this thing. With a 4 gig sd card I can put on average 5 full movies on it. It is actually pleasureable to watch movies on, I'd rather watch movies on my alarm clock than my laptop. Costco has them for $100.00!!! Well worth every dime.

It's incomprehensible that Sony doesn't market this state of the art machine as an alarm clock! I mean it is just perfect. I just hope they get better marketing for this product. The design is just exactly what todays finest alarm clock should be. If Sony markets this correctly they will soon have many copy cats. Sony needs to get this product a good sales pitch. It's even hard to find in Best Buy. It's hard to find in a google search for alarm clocks. For some reason this dream machine elite is hiding from the people who would just love it! I'm so glad I kept looking, it took me a while to find the best alarm clock I may ever have. It's the cats Meow. My wife wants another one for the kitchen too. Thank you Sony for another product that makes me a satisfied customer again!

The Perfect Alarm Clock

I was looking to replace my Homedics iPod Alarm Clock, and I was also looking into digital picture frames. How excited was I, when I saw this on Sony's site. When I got the Multi-Function Clock a couple of days ago, it had even more features than I had imagined. Not only can you wake up to your ipod, radio, or nature sounds, but you can also record messages (great if you have kids or something). It has a battery in it so I didn't even have to set the clock when I pulled it out of the box. It...
