I love this as a basic printer... but one FATAL flaw for those hoping to use it as a photography printer (which you could be mistaken for given its calle dthe Eco Tank PHOTO printer. If you print on any sort of glossy paper (and much if not all luster) there are visible vertical "pizza wheel" marks that will show in reflections for all prints. That with the (attractively more economical) non pigmet based inks (ignoring black) mean all the draws to use this as a photo printer are moot if not behind significant asterisks. It's a great printer I'll use for documents and printing material for me DND game but if you are interested in selling prints from a printer... this isn't it. I really wanted it to be becasuse the Cannon 1100 costs as much as this printer just to refill the ink, but it's not it. If they fixed this ONE issue with the feeder wheels it would be the reigning champ printer, undisputed... but this brings it down from 5 star to a generous 3. A photo printer should not damage photo prints... full stop. (I did adjust many settings per google searches such as thick paper settings, slow print... etc. There is not a fix for most if not all paper with any gloss to them... This makes me a sad man. To touch on missing review topics. Connectivity is amazing and functionality would be great if it did not damage your prints.

Junk I have owned 7 of these printers in the past 3 years. That alone should speak of the quality. They constantly break. They barely get 3000 prints out of a unit. Paper jams, parts falling out, firmware issues stating transportation lock is on when it's not. The support is garbage from Epson. My last printer that was set for warranty exchange I was charged a deposit. I was sent a refurbished unit right away. Then Epson neglected to send me a return address label to send back the broken one so I was charged the deposit amount even though they neglected to send me the return label. What sort of racket are they running. Another unit stopped working shortly after the warranty expired. That particular unit had less than 1000 prints so I took it to their service centre to have it checked and the mother board is fried and the cost to repair that unit would be 600-800$ LESS THAN 1000 prints made in a 1250$ printer. Not one of the printers I have bought in the last three years has made it over 3000 prints total. I have had numerous warranty exchanges and some of them we just threw in the trash because they broke shortly after the warranty period. How is it a company this size can make a printer that cost this much and it can't even make it barley past a year. I have tried to deal with the customer service on multiple occasions but the service sucks. And now I'm out 1250 dollars on a unit with less than 1000 prints not to mention the 500 they scammed me because they didn't send me the return label to send back another broken unit. If you smart you would find a better option then the 8550 or maybe any Epson unit period. We're not searching for another solution for our business. Epson eco tanks are unreliable and for a business that relies on printing we certainly need a better options.

This is a very capable printer for the money. Supertank, wide format, and photo. It seems to a very good job of all of that.

This device is absolutely AWESOME! I just bought it, and after owning many printers over the years, I can say the print quality and performance of this inkjet are truly astonishing. The borderless printing results depend somewhat on the media you use, but overall the quality at this price point is outstanding. On top of that, the ink costs are very reasonable compared to what you'd expect for this level of output. I really love this printer-it's exceeded my expectations. Japanese brands like Epson remind me of Toyota: reliable, durable, and built with exceptional attention to detail. Highly recommended!

This is my second 8550 that will not print gray. No matter how many times I clean the nozzle there is always lines missing on the gray, sometimes the other colours too. I can't print photos with it which is the whole point, I've already returned one which said one of the parts was end of life - I had it for less than 24 hours! I'm so dreading calling Epson customer service that I've put it off for almost a whole week but I'm not sure what else to do.

It's an expensive printer. I had this printer maintained in mint condition with lower than average use. Main tray stopped working. I could hear some mechanical noise like motor and gears working but tray did not open or retract automatically as it used to do. Contacted support via email received email asking to contact call support, which I did and issue remains un-resolved. Rather they told me it could be a mechanical failure and contact an affiliated Epson repair center. The tray does not work, nothing else works. Epson support gave me a 15% coupon to purchase another printer. What a shame, they cannot stand by their own product and quality! Just Send a replacement printer that is the solution!

I purchase my ET-8550 about a year ago. The problems seem to be around the paper feeding into the printer. The help file tells me to load paper in tray 2 - this printer has no trays!!! Is there a fix for this problem. I had to print a proposal today and could not do it. So I went to the library and printed it - it was not free!!! Please send me information on a fix for this printer. It was too expense to be a door stop!

I purchased this printer about a month ago.Unfortunately the printer was not working as I couldn't add ink.i contacted Epson tech support and explained the problem, photos and answered their questions the best I could via telephone.which of course was not a 1800 number and was an additional cost to me. I wanted the printer relplaced or repaired and an address that could sent it to.which they wouldn't provide. I sent it to a wrong Epson address which was received by them. Tech support said that they didn't have the authority to contact department. I couldn't contact the department I sent to. I find hard to understand that one Epson department could communicate via phone with another Epson department. In the end I couldn't get printer back or a refund. I originally wanted the printer because it was 6 ink printer and you could use 13x19 photo paper. I may buy the same printer but not direct from Epson.

I bought my ET-8550 3 years ago and for most of the first two years (warranty period) was very happy with the quality of the prints, both photo quality and drafting for home landscape design. In the last few months though, the printer has been plagued with problems. First, some nozzles became clogged (only 970 pages printed, only Epson OEM ink used) and I went through more than 2/3 of my ink and a couple of waste tanks trying nozzle cleaning and power cleaning, strictly following Epson on-screen directions. I got to only a single Cyan nozzle being clogged and decided to live with it for drafting purposes but that was followed by multiple paper jams and then a code 031002 error which is a hot head indicator - possible failed print head or failed mother board. When selecting "proceed" after a cool down / power off position, it now tells me there might be foreign material in the printer. Not sure how that could be - paper or ink debris? I'm not excited about spending another almost $700 for a replacement so will be shopping for other products. Too bad - until recently, I was happy with this printer!

An absolute nightmare. Nothing works properly. It constantly says there is no paper, even when there is paper. Because its 1mm from the feeder. The paper constantly get stuck. The larger posters, print out missing lines everywhere. They removed a print size that I was regularly using from the defualts on the upgrade. And it was the size I bought the printer from. Its like you bought a car and the manufacturer, comes into your car one day and just removes a random peice of the car and says you dont need that anyways. Even the forgot password on their website doesnt work, Its been an absolute horrible experience. The worst piece of hardware I have bought in the last 20 years.

Absolutely LOVE this printer! Took a bit to figure out some of it - like where exactly was tray 2 - but eventually figured it out. Since I print alot I really like the double sided printing as it saves on paper. It's ot quiet but it's not any louder than any other printer I've had. - I replaced my Brother laser with this one. The automatic openimg output tray was a surprise bonus but doesn'tclose unless you push the close button on the diplay which must be closed to load tray 2. Tray 2 doesn't hold a lot of paper but it's enough for me. I fill the tray every couple of weeks. Love the print quality too. Hope it stays working beautifully. Will only buy brand ink for this great printer to maintain it. Also like you can put larger paper in it too although I haven't had an opportunity to try that out yet. Was well worth the investment!

2 years and still happy. I had multiple printers throughout the years and this one is far the best. My last one was the ET-2850 which was decent but did not have the photo quality I was looking for but is good for the kids. This ET-8550 prints out beautiful 13" X 19" photos from my drone shots to close ups of my pets with amazing results. Exercise it regularly with nozzle checks to avoid ink drying up on print heads like most printers and you should get worry free usage for years. Avoid 3rd party inks as I had to learn the hard way. Old non Epson 4" X 6" paper will only work threw the top feeder. The maintenance box has a chip which tracks its usage which makes cleaning it out a waste of time requiring new ones. If you are thinking of upgrading from smaller units, this is a excellent choice.

I know Epson describes this as wireless printer but that is only true about 87% of the time (Per page printed). I moved the printer where it is absurdly close my computer and it will still fail by seizing up (usually after you printed about 70% of the document). Epson's only solution, is to wire the printer, (while not admitting that their product is defective).

Bought this hoping to use it in my craft room for a variety of projects including iron on, photos, etc. I had issues right away printing wallet photos on 4x6 photo paper. It was frustrating to get it to print straight and borderless. Flash forward and I needed to print on some printable iron-on paper. It jammed, black ink now gets on the edges of any new sheets. I wouldn't print borderless. Photoshop wouldn't even print directly to the machine. I had to save as a jpg and even then getting the colors right on faces was difficult. It does sit idle for a long period (weeks/months) and it will run through a system check to keep it from clogging. The output tray is weird and very flimsy. I'm not even sure it works the way it was intended and I can see it getting broken off very easily. The machine is in no way a tank compared to the R2000 I used to have. But that took cartridges and clogged to the point where I couldn't use it anymore.

I've been using this printer for almost 2 years now to sell my art prints. PROS: I love the ink ecotank usage. I think it's great and I get a lot of prints before refilling and that saves me money. The prints are GORGEOUS and VIBRANT CON: I got this because it can print on 300gsm paper and while it "can" it gets jammed a lot or says it's jammed when it isn't. A lot of times I have to put light pressure on the paper to get it to feed through. The rear end printer has no problem with the 300gsm, but it always prints slightly crooked making it challenging to trim. I've taken my printer to an Epson approved vendor and they cleaned it out and serviced it but I still have trouble with the paper feeding through. I use Moab Entrada paper. I'm still looking for a slightly lighter paper to use, but I haven't found one that competes with Moab for the quality and cost. I really hope that the next version can accomodate a little heavier paper. I would buy it. But for now, when I need to get another printer I will have to look at other options because it's not productive for my business.

Review: ET-8550 First: Positive Aspects I owned an Artesian 1430 for many years. I purchased it for its wide carriage and great color. But, as in life, its time came to an end. I brought it to an Epson sanctioned repair service. The tech in charge told me the model had been discontinued, but recommended looking into the EconTank Epsons. Using the site, I found the ET-8550 would be a good replacement. I viewed several YouTube videos about the 8550. The consensus was that the model provided good quality prints on a variety of papers. The retail price was $799.99, but was reduced to $649.99?$150.00 savings. I purchased it directly from Epson for that amount. Then less than two weeks later the 8550 had been reduced again by $50.00 to $599.00. I contacted Refunds/Returns to let them know about the additional reduction, and Epson returned the questionable $50! I felt this was excellent service and needed to be applauded. Good job Epson!! My desktop computer is a MacMini M1 macOS Sequoia 15.3.1. The setup was a bit confusing, but I managed. I've been using my ET-8550 for several weeks with Photoshop 2025 v23.3.0 and other business related software. I've feel my experimentation with various modes (Normal v Best), papers (Plain, Matte, Glossy, etc) has been quite successful, but? Second: Negative Aspects ? getting different sized papers to feed has been troublesome at best. The Print menu in Photoshop lists several feeds: Auto Select, CD-DVD Tray, Main Tray, Manual Feed, Photo Tray, and Rear Tray. I was successful with all but one? Rear Tray. The Rear allows for more substantial papers, Poster/ Card Stock and thicker Art papers..When I tried the Rear Feed in PS it only recognizes the feed control by the duplex mechanism. (Note: To access the Rear Tray the duplex device needs to be removed to allow the stock to enter in a "flat" profile, rather than via the internal rollers.) Going back I learned that Epson provided the Page Layout app to get the rear tray functional. I obtained v.1.5.12 of the app, but received the error msg "Printer not found. Install printer driver and application. Image not loaded." When I reload the website drivers, it did not improve. I tried removing the v4.0 driver using the Uninstaller app and reloading. No success? Page Layout would still not work! I learned after two calls to the Epson Tech Service that there was no update to Page Layout to work with 8550 macOS Sequoia 15 and that further app development was suspended at this time. Epson failed me on this point!!! Note: I discovered the iOS Page Layout v1.7.2 app recognizes the computer via WiFi. It even has a name for the feed: Rear Paper Feed Slot. To print, however, the image needs to be downloaded to the mobile device (iPhone/iPad). This just complicates the entire printing process. I do my work on a 32" 4k HiRes monitor, and need to make adjustments on my desktop machine. Epson needs to get their act together and finish an update to their Page Layout macOS software.

When it works it's a fantastic printer. But, when it doesn't.Got a paper jam, removed the paper and still says paper jam. Can't find any paper anywhere. Contacted tech support on Epson website, no reply. Tried again, no reply. Finally contacted sales, got to a tech person. On the phone for an hour, no help. Said he would email me with instructions, copy of invoice, pictures of various things on printer. No email. At this point I had a phone number. Called went through the whole thing with another tech. Got the email, sent the info, two days. Nothing. Three weeks I can't use the printer.

Perfect printing. Ink is fantastic and cheap. It seems to be extremely durable even scrubbing doesn't harm it. I tested it with acetone, no running! It's a very high resolution imagery printer. But I only buy Epson branded products.

A detailed review fo the ET-8550
By Dena
After getting repeated requests from Epson, I finally decided to submit a review for my ET-8550. This is my fourth Epson printer and I decided to purchase this one after my 8 year old XP-600 printer expired with a full waste ink box. I figured it wasn't worth sending back to Epson for service and it would be really nice to have a printer able to print up to 13x19. Ordering was a real problem as I started looking early in September 2021. There were up to 90 ships stacked up in the Port of Lo...

Fantastic Print Quality and Ink Efficient
By Ablexan
First off, this is a review for the Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550 Wireless Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. I had an old printer that was constantly going through ink and never really seemed to print well, even on just plain paper. I am somewhat biased against ink printer but this Epson ET-8550 has been a great printer. The print quality is superb for regular prints on standard paper but it really performs best when printing photos. I was amazed by the qualit...
