Lifestyle photographers won’t want to miss out on this recent announcement by V-Flat World. Their new V-Flat boards are reversible, and come in a variety of colors. Additionally, the boards are extremely portable, making them a must for on-the-go food photography and product photography.

Various Colors and Sizes Available

Photographing products can be challenging and, oftentimes, something more than a standard white background is necessary. The new V-Flat boards come in a variety of colors, and each color comes in two different sizes (24”x24” and 30”x40”). Let’s take a look at the colors that are available for purchase.

Cobalt Blueberry/Cranberry Crimson

The first board comes with Cobalt Blueberry on one side, and Cranberry Crimson on the other. For product or food photographers that want to add a touch of blue or red to their photos, this is the perfect choice. Both colors appear textured, and they are much more than just a basic color. These colors can add character to any product photo.

Emerald City/Citrus Burst

The next board comes with Emerald City and Citrus Burst. These muted green and yellow colors could be used to add a subtle burst of color in your background. Again, the textures of these colors help to add a lot of depth and interest to the background of your photo.

French Clay/Terracotta Blush

Next, French Clay and Terracotta Blush come on their own board. The French Clay is a very interesting gray color that wouldn’t generate a lot of attention in your product photography, but it would add a slight amount of interest in the background because of the textures. The Terracotta Blush is a bronze color that has a rustic look and feel.

Carrara Blue/Calacatta Gold

The next board contains Carrara Blue and Calacatta Gold. Both of these colors appear to look like granite. It would look fantastic for food photography where the food needs to be complimented by a beautiful kitchen-like background.

Vintage Plaster/Raw Concrete

For the most simple look, Vintage Plaster and Raw Concrete are paired together on the last board. Both of these colors are an off-white with a little texture to help add interest. This would pair perfectly with simple products that don’t need a background color to create interest in your image.

Duo Legs are included with each color board. These legs allow you to have both a floor or a wall setup. Whether your product stands up or lays down, this will ensure that you have exactly what you need to get great results using the V-flat boards. For the photographer that travels to shoots, you also have the option to pick up the board bag, where you can store and transport the boards to your shoots. This is essential if you travel frequently because it helps ensure that the boards stay undamaged and in great condition. As mentioned before, each board comes in two sizes, so you can pick out the board that works best for the subjects you are shooting.

Why Boards are Used in Product Photography

Background boards are one of the features that can separate professional and amateur product photographers. Many photographers make the mistake of overlooking the importance of a background when shooting their products or food. In reality, it is very important that your background compliments the scene you are shooting. In its most basic form, a background can be plain white. Although, using a color — or even just a texture — can compliment your scene and add interest.

Let’s consider food photography, for example. Imagine photographing a freshly made plate of food on just a white background. Now, add a textured background, such as the V-flat Carrara Blue, a lemon slice in one corner, and a piece of rosemary in the other. With just three simple items, you’ve greatly increased the interest in your photo. Even though the main subject is the plate of food, you can add a background and other elements to compliment the background.

For product photographers, selecting a color to compliment the subject can add a lot to a product photo. For example, using a blue background for a product that is red in color, or a purple background for a yellow product can help add interest to your scene. These complimentary colors can go a long way to make your product photography more aesthetically pleasing.
