When talking about notable New York City actresses, you can’t help but have the one and only Sarah Jessica Parker in the conversation. Throughout her career, and in her star role in “Sex in The City,” she has become synonymous with NYC.

Now, at Tribeca Film Festival, Parker opened up about her new film, “Blue Night,” her love for NYC, and former co-star Cynthia Nixon’s run for New York Governor.

In “Blue Night,” which premiered during TFF, Parker plays a jazz-pop singer named Vivienne who is devastated by news of a medical diagnosis. Filmed in NYC, the film was “one of the realest, most humbling experiences,” Parker noted.

The 16-day shoot

Product for “Blue Night” took, believe it or not, 16 days. “I’m not certain I ever need more than 16 days again,” she laughed. The run-and-gun aspect of filming means that the entire process was condensed into just two-and-a-half weeks.

“The way I can see people who come from a completely different background, and have a completely different set of struggles is inspiring,” Parker says of the subway system in NYC. The mix of people, backgrounds, personalities, and inspirational moments is what made her fall in love with the city, and continues her love affair of the metro area.

In addition to discussing the movie and her love of New York, Parker also touched on her former co-star and long-time friend Cynthia Nixon’s run for governor of New York. She revealed that she “had no clue” but that it “made complete sense.” Parker, who is a strong proponent of women’s rights, says that, “she is proud of Nixon.” “I think that she is already really good for the conversation,” she added.
