Tamron today announced its lightest super tele zoom to date, the Tamron 100-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD. Weighing in at only 39.3 oz, Tamron says it’s the lightest lens in its class. The lens features three LD (low dispersion) lens elements to reduce aberration, which is more common in telephoto lenses, and Tamron’s original eBAND Coating, which is said to improve anti-reflection performance and prevent ghosting and flare.
Key Features:
- 3 LD (Low Dispersions) lens elements
- eBand coating
- High-speed Dual MPU for responsive AF, Vibration Compensation
- 39.3 oz is lightest in ultra-tele lens category
- Minimum focus to 59 inches
- Moisture-resistant construction
Its lower weight lets users handhold a camera/lens combination for longer with less stress and arm and shoulder fatigue. A powerful Vibration Compensation system works with a high-speed dual microprocessor control system to deliver fast, responsive AF performance. Minimum focus is 59 inches, and the magnification tops out at 1:3.6.
The lens is constructed of magnesium material “in key areas of the lens barrel” to reduce weight while maintaining strength and increasing portability. The surface is moisture-resistant, and there is Fluorine coating on the front glass for extra protection against the elements.
An optional accessory tripod mount is compatible with Arca Swiss, and the lens if compatible with the Tamron 1.4x Teleconverter. The lens also works with Tamron’s Tap-in console, which enables lens customizations for focus adjustments.
The Tamron 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD will be available in Canon and Nikon mounts, and is expected to be available by the end of this year. Pricing and ordering information to be announced.
