Sony’s new compact camera lineup includes several models that take advantage of Sony’s Super HAD sensor technology, which Sony says has twice the sensitivity to light as other sensors and which might very well allow them to get away with squeezing 20MP into a tiny sensor. The cameras will be available soon at Adorama. Here’s a quick overview of the new Sony compact digital camera lineup:

Sony Cyber-shot WX200

Sony Cyber-shot WX familyThe Sony Cyber-shot WX200 (shown above) is a slim 18MP CMOS sensor camera with a 10x optical zoom lens, enhanced Optical SteadyShot, Full HD video, Superior Auto, high-speed Autofocus, Wi-Fi, Beauty Effect, and Advanced Flash. The Sony Cyber-shot WX80 looks almost identical to the WX200, but offers a 16MP CMOS sensor, 8x optical zoom lens, enhanced Optical SteadyShot, Full HD video, Superior Auto, Wi-Fi, Beauty Effect, and Advanced Flash. The Sony Cyber-shot WX60 is essentially the same as the WX80, but minus the Wi-Fi.

Sony Cyber-shot TF1

Waterproof Compact Sony TF1The Sony Cyber-shot TF1 is a waterproof compact digital camera that can be submerged down to 30 feet, and is dust-, shock-, and freeze-proof. It boasts a 16.1MP Super HAD CCD sensor, 4x optical zoom lens, Optical SteadyShot, HD video, Beauty Effect, Advanced Flash.

20MP WonderNow we come to the 20MP model. The prosumer-oriented Sony Cyber-shot H200 has a 20MP Super HAD CCD sensor that goes up to ISO 3200, a long-reaching 26x optical zoom Sony lens, HD video, Intelligent Auto, Beauty Effect, Advanced Flash, and works with AA batteries. It will be available in January for $249.

Budget-BustersFinally, Sony announced a pair of entry-level cameras, one of which will cost under $100, the Sony Cyber-shot W730 and Sony Cyber-shot W710. Both shirt-pocketable cameras offer 16MP resolution, have intelligent auto, Beauty Effect, sweep panorama, a top ISO of 3200, and the usual selection of flash features. The difference? The $139 W730 (above) has an 8x lens, while the $99 W710’s lens is a more modest 5x.Look for Sony’s latest cameras soon at Adorama.
