The Sony E-mount mirrorless camera lineup has a brand new addition. The Sony α6400, announced today, builds upon the technologies in Sony’s existing full-frame lineup, and delivers them in a new compact body.
The α6400 features the world’s fastest autofocus acquisition speed of 0.02 seconds, according to Sony, and has the newest advanced real-time eye AF and real-time tracking features that make shooting high-speed objects even more possible.

Key features:
- 24.2MP APS-C CMOS image sensor
- BIONZ X image processor
- AF acquisition speed of 0.02 seconds, as well as 425 phase-detection and contrast-detection points
- New Real-time Eye AF
- New Real-time Tracking
- High-speed continuous shooting at up to 11fps
- High-resolution 4K movie recording
- Interval recording for time-lapse videos
- ISO range to 32000 for still and movie, and up to ISO 102400 for still images
- 180-degree fully-tiltable LCD touchscreen with 921,000 dots of resolution.

High-speed technology for high-speed moments:
Capture quickly-moving subjects with ease, thanks to the new autofocus system that features an AF acquisition speed of 0.02 seconds and 425 phase- and contract-detection AF points that cover nearly 84 percent of the image area, locking onto a subject and tracking them throughout movement.
The addition of the Real-time Eye AF, which uses AI to detect and process the data in real time, means users can focus on the eye of their subjects (you can even choose a preferred eye) throughout fast-moving scenes. Eye AF for animals will also be coming via a software update this summer.
The Real-time Tracking feature uses AI, depth, and brightness to detect and track subjects throughout the frame. The α6400 has shooting speeds up to 11fps with full AF/AE tracking and mechanical shutter. Employ silent shooting and the α6400 can shoot up to 8fps with full AF/AE tracking.

High-resolution 4K recording:
For videographers and bloggers, the Sony α6400 includes internal high-resolution 4K movie recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binding, Sony notes. An interval recording feature for time-lapse movies can be programmed from one to 60 seconds, capturing up to 9,999 shots.
The new addition of Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) picture profile means you can use an Instant HDR workflow during playback.

In addition to the release of the a6400, Sony has also announced major new firmware updates for the a9 camera, which include Real-time Tracking, Real-time Eye AF, and soon, Real-time Eye AF for animals.
The Sony a6400 will be shipped in February 2019, and will be available for preorder on January 17, 2019 for at Adorama. It is also available with a 16-50mm F3.5 – 5.6 lens for or with a 18-135mm F3.5 – 5.6 lens for .
