First-Ever Global Shutter
Most importantly, the Sony A9 III Camera introduces the world’s first global shutter image sensor, meaning zero distortion for both stills and video. It offers a new Pre-Capture function so you can capture the moment before the shutter release—perfect for unpredictable shutter timing, like when shooting wildlife or sports. This function is available up to 120fps.
Ergonomic Design
Its ergonomic grip enhances operability to reduce fatigue. It offers the same operation when shooting vertically and horizontally, creating parallel power for longer shooting times. The body also features a quick-response shutter button, C5 custom button located on the front of the camera, a Drive mode dial deactivate function, and customizable L+R rear dials. And, of course, the camera is dust and moisture resistant like Sony’s other camera models.

Autofocus Capabilities
You’ll receive 8.0 stops of 5-axis optical in-body image stabilization. And the Sony A9 III Camera has 759-point phase detection AF covering 95.6% of the area with AF precision down to -5.0EV. Also, new on the A9 Mark III are XS and XL focus area spot sizes.
Video Resolution
The camera offers 6k oversampling for distortion-free 4k 60p movies, and 4k 120p without cropping. This includes 10-bit 4:2:2 All-I, 16-bit RAW output, S-Cinetone and S-Log3, and dynamic active mode stabilization.

Screen and Viewfinder
The Sony A9 III Camera receives a 3.2-type 4-axis multi-angle LCD screen with a wide color gamut and touch control. Meanwhile, the EVF is a 9.44 million-dot OLED with .90x magnification and a 41-degree field of view.
Considering this is the 10th anniversary of Sony’s first Alpha full-frame mirrorless camera, which was first released October 16, 2013, the camera industry has certainly come a long way. The Sony A9 III Camera will be available in Spring 2024 starting at $5,999.
Sony also announced firmware updates to a few existing cameras, along with the release of the Sony 300mm f2.8 GM OSS Lens, which can you read more about here.
