COB (Chip-on-Board) LEDs are brighter, consume less power, and produce a higher quality beam of light than older LED technologies. What makes the light unique is that it’s essentially a cluster of LED chips tightly packed together to create a single, large LED with excellent uniformity of brightness which makes it ideal for photographers and filmmakers. Here’s a brief overview of the COB Lights by SmallRig.

Key Features of the SmallRig COB Lights:

  • Maximum illuminance of the bare light source at 3.3 feet is 5,370 lux
  • The illuminance level increases to 62,600 lux after attaching the hyper reflector
  • TLCI 98, CRI 97 offers color-accurate rendering
  • Manual and remote light control via SmallGoGo App
  • Intelligent light control offers color temperature adjustment and 9 lighting effects
  • Dual power supply system: AC adapter, and 14.4V/26V V-mount battery
  • Ultra-quiet internal fan noise is 25dB±2dB at approximately 3 feet
  • When housing temperature exceeds 140°F, the heat dissipation function activates
  • Standard Bowens mount for connecting most light-control accessories
  • Includes high-quality snowflake cloth portable storage bag

General Overview

The first generation of SmallRig’s point-source LED lights, the RC120D and RC120B, are built with the latest COB technology and SmallRigs industrial design expertise. By using the high-reflective hyper reflector included with the unit, the center illumination reaches 62,600 lux on the RC120D and 52,800 lux on the RC120B. Both have a CRI of over 97 and a TLCI of over 98, resulting in high color fidelity. The standard Bowens mount allows the lights to work with various light-control accessories. Each comes with nine built-in light effects such as Paparazzi, Firework, Lightning, Fault Bulb, TV, Breath, Flash, Party, Flame, and Brightness. You can control these features using the SmallGoGo app, so you can capture any type of lighting for the perfect shot.

COB (Chip On Board) lights are essentially an array of LED chips that are tightly packed into a smaller area thanks to the reflectors which hold them and bond to a substrate, such as silicon carbide. Compared to older technologies found in most other lighting products, COB LEDs are brighter, consume less power, and produce a higher quality, more focused beam of light. In addition, the light is also extremely dense. The reflector enhances the light spectrum, making it more vibrant. Thermal sinks are usually toward the circuit board in most COB lights due to their simple design. Due to these characteristics, COB LEDs emit less heat than other LED lighting methods. All the internal components used for the substrate, the board circuit, as well as the heat sink, contribute to the light’s heat distribution effectiveness.
