Today, Sigma is unveiling an exciting new addition to its Contemporary line of lenses: the Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens. This wide-angle zoom lens offers the best of both worlds. It’s a versatile zoom lens that lets photographers and videographers switch between subjects and scenes to perfectly capture the moment. At the same time, it’s just as much a wide-angle lens with stellar landscape, architecture, or astrophotography capabilities — whether it’s the widest 16mm focal length or a slightly tighter 28mm.

Here’s everything we know about the new Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 zoom lens, which comes in L-Mount and Sony E-Mount styles.

Impressive Image Quality

Prepare to be wowed — and to wow your clients — with the Sigma 16-28mm lens’ top-notch image quality. This lens has it all, and then some, with two large-diameter aspherical lens elements and five FLD glass elements for reducing chromatic aberrations. This is particularly important in wide-angle lenses. It also comes with a nine-blade-rounded diaphragm to ensure those bokeh shots pop as they should. And, the super multi-layer coating guarantees high-contrast results that bring those scenes to life.

Accurate and Convenient Autofocus

Rest assured the Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 lens will nail autofocus time after time. This lens comes with a stepping motor to control AF actuator. This means the autofocus is fast and silent — ideal for everything from wedding day shoots to capturing wildlife photography without disrupting the scene. Additionally, the lens’ inner-zoom mechanism remains the same length for the entire zoom range. That means creators won’t have to worry about a shift in balance point. tHIS is particularly important for those who use a gimbal or stabilizer for video.

An Ergonomic Build for All-Day Use

While the Sigma 16-28mm lens is powerful, it’s also impressively portable — something particularly important for creators spending long days on a shoot. The lens features lightweight materials like Thermally Stable Composite (TSC). This lets the lens reach its peak performance in even the toughest of temperatures because the metal and plastic parts expand and contract at similar rates. The lightweight Sigma 16-28mm lens weighs just under one pound. It’ll add minimal weight to your camera bag or travel backpack — making it a perfectly versatile wide-angle addition to your kit.
