Speed, speed, speed and efficiency
But the smaller size does not mean reduced performance — we are talking about the ability to copy a whopping 2GB of photos in just ten seconds, all in a drive that weighs about as much as a slice of bread. Samsung basically took the design of their SSD 850 Evo, but used the mSATA version to reduce the size and increase portability. However, the T1 still utilizes many of the 850 EVO’s main features, including the use of 3D-vertical NAND flash memory.
Samsung’s proprietary 3D Vertical NAND (V-NAND) technology and a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface allows the SSDT1 to run up to 450MB/s when reading or writing data sequentially. That is incredibly speedy! The cells in the device are stacked on top of each other as well as side by side, resulting in greater density but also in more storage space. Thanks to Samsung’s TurboWrite technology, the drive is able to operate a portion of its flash memory in a simulated high-performance mode of single-layer-cell flash memory, as a buffer zone. Most other terabyte drives can only hit around 100MB/s, making the SSDT1 truly a revolutionary product. It’s potentially one of the best consumer-level SSDs you can buy at the moment. There are few other options in portable, high-speed, high-capacity drives for moving your data the way the T1 Can. You won’t be stuck waiting for your data, and you’ll save time when moving music, movies, documents and photos.
Connecting the drive to your PC or Mac is incredibly easy, and you can use a computer with a USB 2 or USB 3, but USB 3 will provide fastest speeds possible. Once you install a driver to your MAC or PC, you’re good to go!
Out of the box, setting up the SSD T1 on my Surface 3 was an absolute breeze, and took only a matter of minutes.
Keeps your data safe
It’s important to keep your projects and data safe, that’s why Samsung embedded the T1 with AES 256-bit encryption, the strongest encryption standard. This impressive security system requires no installation. Rather, upon using the drive for the first time, you will be prompted to create a name and password. Keeping a copy of your password in a safe place is essential because should you forget it, you will need to contact Samsung to factory reset your drive. Many of us can relate to the fact that our data is our life, so the extra security provided will bring peace of mind and confidence to the user.
