The Manfrotto 055 has been the go-to tripod for pros and enthusiasts alike for many years thanks to the tripods’ solid build and affordable prices. Now Manfrotto has refreshed the 055 lineup, adding new features and redesigning several parts for easier use.

The new Manfrotto 055 tripod line includes two new Carbon Fiber models (3-section or 4-section) and one new Aluminum 055 tripod that is available alone or with a choice of a ball head or a 3Way head. The entire lineup is available now at Adorama.

This video, supplied by Manfrotto, provides a good overview:

New Manfrotto 055 tripod features include:

Quick Power Locks: A new leg lock system is said to increase load capacity in any position. Manfrotto says that the new 055 can handle up to 19.8 pounds, and is 50 percent more rigid than its predecessor.

Easy Link: The Easy Link attachment lets you attach an additional arm to hold a lighting accessory, such as an LED light, a reflector, or an off-camera flash.

Redesigned features:

Q90 Center Column: With a quick flick of a tab the center column can be switched from verticle to horizontal. Combined with the 4 leg angles available you have a wider variety of possible camera positions while maintaining good stability.

Upper Disc: A new flat upper disc now comes with a bubble level that rotates 360 degrees so it is always visible, and doesn’t get lost under a tripod head.

New Manfrotto 055 tripod basic specs:
  • The Manfrotto MT055CXPRO03 is a 3-second carbon-fiber tripod extends to 66.3 inches including center post, folds down to 24 inches and weighs 4.4 pounds.

In a kit with the ballhead its maximum extension increases to 72 inches and it weighs 6.8 pounds, while the 3Way Tripod Head kit keeps the same height but makes it a tad heavier at 7.7 pounds. Both heads reduce its payload capacity to 17.6 pounds.
