Kipon is one of the leaders in the adapter market and currently have some of the most exciting adapters available today. Earlier this year, Kipon was the first to adapt Canon EF lenses to Micro Four Thirds bodies with autofocus and electronic aperture control. This was a huge boon to the MFT market as they could now count many excellent Canon EF lenses among those they could use with their MFT cameras such as the Panasonic GH4 or the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera.
Kipon has a large catalogue of adapters. Some of the notable adapters are:
Kipon Lens Mount Adapter from Pentax K To Sony NexBody – (with Macro Helicoid Feature)
This adapter is designed to allow Pentax K series lenses to work with a Sony NEX mount camera as well as allowing the macro mode of the Pentax K lenses to work with the Sony body.
Kipon Baveyes Lens Adapter from Leica R To Sony Nex Body – (0.7x Optic Adapter Focal Reducer)
If you have Leica R lensesand want to adapt them to a Sony NEX mount camera this will let you do that as well as giving you the full frame goodness by reducing the image to fit the NEX sensor.
Kipon Tilt Lens Mount Adapter from Nikon F To Micro 4/3 Body
With this adapter you can mount Nikon F series manual lenses onto any Micro 4/3mount camera. This adapter gives you the ability to get tilt shift imagery with up to a 10° shift. If you would like to learn more you can watch this excellent tilt shift tutorial videofrom Daniel Norton of Adorama TV.
Here is the newest adapter from Kipon and this is exciting because it allows full frame Canon EF lenses to work with Sony NEX E-Mount cameras which have an APS-C sensor with nearly no vignetting, even on wide angle lenses. The adapter also lets nearly one extra stop of light through by focusing the light from the full frame lens onto the smaller APS-C sensor. This is accomplished by the 0.7X focal reducer.Another feature that makes this a potential game changer is the autofocus feature. No word yet on which specific lenses work with the autofocus. Please note the EF-S/E AF on the adapter signifies Canon EF lens to Sony E mount with auto focus, not Canon EF-S lens to Sony E mount. I verified this through testing as well as with Kipon.
I briefly tested this adapter in the store using the Adorama’s Sony Alpha a5100 Mirrorless Digital Camera Bodyand my Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Zoom Lens. The adapter showed no vignetting, even at the 24mm end. The image looked very clean. I wasn’t able to determine whether an extra stop of light was being sent to the sensor, but the image did seem to be very bright and sharp, even when I opened up fully to f/2.8.I also tested the autofocus function of the adapter and the camera was able to autofocus at a very respectable rate. It was not quite up to the speed of a native lens, but the future may hold upgrades as there is a USB port on the adapter. The adapter felt solid and both ends locked very firmly. For all those who are looking to use full frame Canon glass with your Sony NEX camera, this is a winner. I will caution you though that not all camera models and lenses are compatible with this adapter. Please take extra care when attempting to use any adapter with wide angle and fisheye lenses. Please contact our lens specialists if you have any questions regarding compatibility.
