Leica APO-Summicron-SL 28 f/2 ASPH Highlights

“APO” stands for Leicas superior imaging performance and is backed up by its corresponding MTF curves. As a wider-angle prime, the 28mm SL series lens delivers a balance between speed, weight, and portability. Multi-layer lens coatings limit flare and ghosting for increased contrast when in harsh lighting conditions. A Dual Syncro Drive stepping motor delivers quiet autofocus performance for both photo and video. Additionally, an AquaDura coating helps protect it from the elements.

The SL 28mm lens would be an excellent choice for street photography, landscape photographers, and filmmakers. It will give your photos a bit more depth perception, they will be sharp and in focus while also giving your images a wider feel.

For videographers, it could be a nice option to throw on a gimbal. With the f/2 aperture, the lens is fast, which means it performs better in low-light situations. The weight does come in around one and a half pounds which might be too heavy for a lightweight run and gun setup. The .24m to infinity close focus is a good choice for close-ups as wider lenses tend to have more dimension and feel to them.

If you’ve already purchased any of the previous SL series lenses, this 28mm would be a perfect option to round out your lineup. The Leica APO-Summicron-SL 28 f/2 ASPH is available for preorder through Adorama.
