Tether Tools, a company well known for its tethering equipment, has recently released a new line of TetherPro USB-C Cables intended for photographers that tether a camera to a USB-C port computer, laptop, tablet or mobile phone to view captured images while shooting in real time.
Previously, photographers with USB-C ports had to separately purchase and use an adapter to connect their camera to a viewing device, making this new line of cables less cumbersome to use.
Features:
- Direct camera to viewing device connection. Like other Tether Tools cables, these cables are an all-in-one option without the need for an adapter or hub, but made specifically for USB-C ports.
- Filters out signal noise and reduces transmission errors. It can be frustrating to shoot quickly but your tethering cable slows down your process. The Tether Pro USB-C cables are heavily shielded and plated to protect connections from signal interference.
- Up to 15-foot cables. These cables are available in 3, 6, 10 and 15-foot lengths. Should you need a longer connection, you will need an adapter to adjoin the two or more cables.
- Available in high visibility orange or non-reflective black. The availability of having this cable in high visibility orange is that it helps people on your set to see cables that are taped down rather than tripping on them.
How to use:
- First, plug the USB-C end of the cable into the USB-C port of your digital device such as a computer, laptop, tablet or mobile phone.
- With your camera shut off, connect the camera compatible end of the cable into your camera.
- Turn on your digital device and start up your tethering software of choice.
- Turn on your camera. You should see the connection established through your tethering program within seconds.
- Then, click away!
My take:
When testing out this cable, I found the transfer speeds to be pretty fast, even when using a 15-foot cable. I love that these cables come in a variety of lengths and that there are optional adapters available to connect cables creating even lengthier connections. I like that these TetherPro USB-C cables are durable and that they come not only in black, but high-visibility orange, should photographers want to provide additional assurance that nobody trips over a cable on the floor.
Lastly, with an option of using a Tether Tools JerkStopper, you can connect the cable to your camera in a way that it’s nearly impossible for the cable to be pulled out by accident, which can be a bit frustrating when photographers are on a roll during a photo shoot.
Tether Tools has done it again. They’ve made another durable and reliable product that makes shooting a little less stressful and more convenient for photographers who tether while shooting. If you like to tether to view your images while shooting in real time and you have a digital device with a USB-C port, the TetherPro USB-C Cable is a no-brainer to include in your gear bag.
