For over 30 years, Garmin has been a leading developer in GPS technology for automotive, marine, aviation, sport, and outdoor activities. With two anticipated new additions to their line of wearables — the Fenix 7 series and Epix 2 — the company continues to set the standard for rugged, high-end smartwatches.

Garmin has produced wearable smart devices for fitness enthusiasts since 2003. Things have certainly come a long way since then, but Garmin’s dedication to high-performance technology for high-performance users remains at the core of these Garmin smartwatches nearly two decades later.

Fenix 7 at a Glance

The brand new Fenix 7 comes in three sizes, starting with the standard 7 model, the 7S for smaller wrists, and the 7X with the largest display. The 7 and 7S come with an optional Solar or Sapphire Solar versions for long-lasting battery life, while the 7X makes it a standard feature. The latter touts an incredible battery life of up to 37 days.

The smallest Fenix 7S offers a 1.2”, 240 x 240 pixel display, while the roomier 7X version increases the screen size to 1.4” and 280 x 280 pixels. The regular Fenix 7 is a perfect middle at 1.3” and 260 x 260 pixels. All three watches share the same pixel density at 200 pixels per inch (PPI). This means the viewing quality is equal across the board.

Most of the internals on the 7 series carry over from 2019’s Fenix 6 lineup with a few upgrades to boost overall performance. This is most notable in the battery department, which is approximately 30% better in the Fenix 7.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, users will find a huge array of features aimed at athletes and those with active lifestyles.

The Garmin Epix 2 arrives with a stunning 1.3”, 454 x 454 pixel AMOLED display — a considerable step up from the Fenix. Likewise, its battery life is no less impressive either at up to 16 days on a single charge.

Naturally, the Epix 2 also comes loaded with all of the health and fitness features Garmin is known for.
