From hobbyists to professionals, every photographer needs one essential thing…Light! There are no photos without light and, when it comes to photographic lighting, the two things that really matter are how you create light and how you shape light. If you are seeking a gift for a wedding photographer, studio photographer or a portrait photographer, Flashpoint and Glow have a range of high-quality lighting gear that includes flashes, speedlights, softboxes, pop-up reflectors and much more. Whatever you’re after, this gift guide has something for every photographer and every budget.

How We Chose These Flashpoint Gifts

Lighting and accessories from Flashpoint have been instrumental in growing my studio. The variety of options within the R2 series of lighting have made it easy to build ideal lighting kits for studio portraits, product photography, editorial portraits, and action photography. The low cost of the grip and light shaping tools have allowed me to fill a studio with options that give me access to any visual result I need. The emphasis on portability has made it far easier to build complex lighting setups when working on location. I’m sure every photographer out there can see an item on this list that would be helpful on their photography journey.

Flashpoint eVOLV S200 Stick Flash Head

As flash heads go, the eVOLV S200 is in a class of its own. The stick head design gives 10.78” of illuminated length, 360-degree spread of light, and comes with detachable barn doors for more control. It can be handheld or mounted to a light stand and is designed to attach to the Flashpoint eVOLV200 body.

Flashpoint Zoom Li-on X R2 TTL On-Camera Round Flash Speedlight

The circular-shaped head gives this speedlight a number of advantages. There’s the obvious one, where the bare flash projects a rounded pattern of light. But, as a bonus, it’s also fully compatible with magnetic OTA round-shaped attachments. If you’re a photographer who loves the convenience of TTL or HSS flash, then you’re also covered.

Flashpoint XPLOR 100 Pro TTL R2 Battery-Powered Monolight

This tiny soda can-sized flash packs a lot into a small space, making it the perfect off-camera flash for wedding and mobile portrait photographers. This 100ws battery-powered flash has advanced futures such as TTL flash, HSS mode and even an LED modelling light. And, of course, it has the R2 wireless receiver built right in.

Flashpoint Dimmable LED 42W 5500K AC Powered Light Ring

With 42W of power, it’s a good thing this AC powered ring light can be dimmed from 10-100%. It can also be adjusted in angle and produces very low heat so you can get it close to your subject for those signature round ring light catchlights.

Flashpoint R200 Ring Flash Head for eVOLV200 and 200 Pro Pocket Flash

If the standard flash head of the eVOLV200 isn’t what you’re after, then this powerful 200ws ring flash could be the answer. It even gives shadows around your subjects which is ever popular for fashion photography. Included is a folding bracket for on-camera use and an umbrella attachment for off-camera flash.

Flashpoint R2 XPro II 2.4GHz TTL Wireless Flash Trigger

The backbone of the R2 flash system is the transmitter — and they don’t get any better than this. The large backlit LCD screen makes controlling every aspect of your flashes clear, simple and reliable. Available for a wide range of brands TTL, HSS, manual and multi flash are all present here.

Flashpoint eVOLV 200 Pro TTL Pocket Flash Kit

Portable and powerful, the eVOLV200 is a battery-powered monolight flash that is an essential tool for many wedding and portrait photographers. Not much bigger than a speedlight, but at around three times the power, this flash comes with a choice of speedlight or bare bulb heads included in its robust travel case.

Flashpoint XPLOR 400 Pro Compact TTL R2 Monolight

If you need a main flash with a little more punch,  look no further than the XPLOR 400 Pro. With a nine-stop range, this flash has the power and control to be both a location light and a studio strobe. At the rear, the 2600mAh battery is good for around 390 full power flashes. At the front, the Godox mount can be swapped out for the included Bowens mount.

Flashpoint XPLOR Power 1200 Pro R2 TTL Flash and Pack Kit

The XPLOR Power 1200 Pro has a massive 5200mAh battery pack which can deliver around 500 full power flashes to its 1200ws remote head. If you need to fill a colossal softbox or freeze action at small apertures, this is the flash you need. It even comes with its own wheeled case for easy transport.

Flashpoint XPLOR 300 Pro TTL R2 Battery-Powered Monolight

The XPLOR 300 Pro is the perfect balance between size and power for any wedding or portrait photographer. There’s a bright 30W bi-color LED modelling light and fan cooling. It has a nine-stop power range and a stable color mode. The R2 wireless transmitter is built-in and the whole flash weighs in at just 3 lb. with the supplied battery.

Glow 5-in-1 Collapsible Circular Reflector

A 5-in-1 reflector is an essential accessory for every portrait photographer and videographer who uses natural light, flash, or LED. The removable and reversible cover is black and white on one side, silver and gold on the other, with a built-in translucent screen at its center. There are two hand grips on the ends, or you can use the 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounts. This reflector comes in a range of sizes to suit all needs.

Glow White Parabolic Umbrella

Bigger lights mean softer shadows and, at 72”, this umbrella is at the upper end of that scale. It’s quick to set up and collapse back down. This isn’t just a large umbrella — it’s a two-in-one light modifier. With the black outer cover attached, it’s a soft white reflective umbrella. But when you remove the black cover, you now have a giant shoot-through umbrella as well.

Glow EZ Lock Quick Octa Large Softbox

This could be your new favorite softbox. It has eight sides, giving nice octagon-shaped catchlights. It has an inner diffuser, outer diffusers, and even a reversible deflector plate for even illumination. An egg crate grid is included and, most importantly, thanks to its internal umbrella design, it can be set up and taken down in seconds.

Needless to say, when it comes to lighting equipment, photographers always want more. Ask any wedding or portrait photographer if they’d like another light and you’ll get a simple answer. Ask them which one and the reply will take a little longer.

My best advice is to have options. If they already have a large flash, a smaller one is a great choice. If they have an umbrella, then a softbox would be an excellent alternative. And if all else fails, there probably isn’t a portrait or wedding photographer out there who can’t make use of a 5-in-1 collapsible reflector!
