Panasonic is once again partnering with Leica to produce fast, rugged, high-end wide lens for Micro Four Thirds mount for landscapes and street photography.
Panasonic today announced the Panasonic Lumix 12mm f/1.4 DG lens, once again partnering with Leica to produce a 24mm (35mm equivalent) optic that meets the highest levels of clarity and dynamic detail. The lens has been sealed against splashes and dust when mounted on compatible Lumix G cameras.
Panasonic H-X012 Key Features
- 12mm (35mm camera equivalent: 24mm; 84-degree angle of view)
- Aperture range f/1.4-16
- Closest focus 0.66 ft
- Accommodates 62mm filter
- 2.76 inches from base to tip of lens

Designed to meet the strict quality standards and specifications of Leica Camera AG, the lens is said to deliver brilliant image clarity and impressive sharpness from edge to edge. Faster and more rugged than the highly-regarded Olympus 12mm f/2, the Panasonic 12mm f/1.4 is designed especially for shooting detailed landscapes, as well as for night-time photography and astrophotography.
The lens includes a 9-blade aperture with rounded blades, leading to more natural Bokeh, and is designed for smooth aperture changes to eliminate sudden jumps in exposure when shooting video. The autofocus is extremely quiet and reliable, and was designed with 4K image capture in mind.
The lens consists of two aspherical lenses, two ultra-low dispersion lenses, and one extra-low dispersion lenses, to prevent spherical and distortion aberration, and to correct chromatic aberration for sharp, contrasty images and reliable color.
