Robotics and drones are making our world more accessible and user friendly. At CES 2022 this week, some companies decided to showcase just what they have in store for this category. Let’s take a look at the CES drone news so far.
Hyundai
Hyundai unveiled their new four-wheeled mobility platform called MobED. This service robot helps with delivery services, stroller help, screen mounting and more. The platform is designed for applications that require stability and high maneuverability — measuring at 67 cm long, 60 cm wide, and 33 cm high with a weight of 50 kg. The wheelbase can expand to 65cm for optimal stability in high-speed driving and can scale down to 45 cm for low speed. Its maximum speed is around 18mph, and has about a 4-hour battery life on a single charge. This type of robotics can change our workspaces for the better — especially in the warehouse and delivery industries.
Skydio
We’ve seen the cinematic world transform with use of drones. The Skydio 2+ was unveiled this year with the ability to avoid obstacles on its own. This model is geared more toward cinematographers and content creators. It comes equipped with a 5Ghz Wi-Fi radio for connection over longer distances. You will now be able to fly up to 1.86 miles away with the controller. The new improved battery gives you a 27-minute flight time. The Skydio 2+ utilizes keyframes to set pre-determined flight paths for incredible shots.
Autel Robotics
Autel Robotics unveiled three major drone products this year.
EVO Nano Series: This is a great companion drone that can fit in the palm of your hand. It’s an ultracompact drone for photographers, with a sharp 50MP resolution (EVO Nano+), and a 48 MP resolution (EVO Nano).
EVO Lite+: The perfect drone for low light and night video. The EVO Lite+ boasts a 1-inch CMOS image sensor with a 50MP image quality. The autofocus locks within milliseconds with a phase detection and dual focus algorithm. This is also the first drone with a four-axis gimbal which will allow you to shoot vertical videos.
Dragonfish: This drone simplifies operation with its unique tilt-rotor design. The Dragonfish is waterproof, smart, reliable and modular. It includes powerful AI tracking and has a 180-minute runtime with 4K 50x optical zoom. The drone flies at a speed of 180km/h, and is ideal for professional use.
Sony
Sony’s Airpeak S1 is stated to be the world’s smallest drone that can be carried with a full-size mirrorless Alpha camera. With a max speed of 55.9mph and a flight time of 22 minutes with a payload, this drone can soar. The landing gear retracts to not obstruct the field of view, and the propellers are detachable for easy transport. If you have a Sony Alpha camera, this is a cool way to get it off the ground.
