DJI has just announced the newest addition to the DJI Action camera lineup, the DJI Osmo Action 4 Camera. It features 4K 120fps slow motion recording, 10-bit D-Log color performance, long lasting battery life, and a quick-release design for easy horizontal and vertical mountain. With a new sensor and an upgrade in stabilization and dynamic range, this is a great time to upgrade your action camera.

Key Features of the DJI Osmo 4 Action Camera

  • 1/1.3-inch sensor and low-light imaging
  • 10-bit & D-Log M color performance
  • Deep-freeze resistance
  • Battery life up to 160 minutes
  • 4K/120 fps
  • 155º ultra-wide FOV
  • Magnetic quick release
  • Native vertical video
  • 360° HorizonSteady
  • Waterproof up to 18 meters

4K Video at 120fps

With an all-new 1/1.3-inch sensor, this is a 69% sensor increase from the 1/1.7-inch of the DJI Osmo Action 3 Camera. This allows the camera to create better quality imagery, especially in low-light conditions. This tiny new action camera is packed with powerful image processing, a wide f/2.8 aperture, and 2.4μm- equivalent pixel size delivering extremely detailed shots — even in low light conditions while diving.

An action cam isn’t really an action cam without the ability to film in slow motion. The Osmo Action 4 offers 4K/120fps, allowing you to warp time and create incredibly dynamic and smooth details. Another upgrade from the Osmo Action 3 is the case-free waterproof rating. Up from 16 to 18 meters on the Action 4, while the weight of the camera is roughly the same at 145g.

10-bit D-Log M Color Performance

The camera has 10-bit D-Log M color performance which gives you control over one billion colors, providing a wider dynamic range to work with when color grading. With this new dynamic range, recording in HDR mode will be unnecessary.

Reduce Camera Shake

360 HorizonSteady uses DJI’s latest stabilization algorithm to correct any shaking for horizontal rotation and locks onto the leveled horizon on every frame. Footage can remain horizontally level, even through heavy bumps when mountain biking.

The Osmo Actions 4 also uses RockSteady 3.0 technology to stabilize your footage. The Electronic Image Stabilization technology analyzes the images captured by the CMOS sensor and compensates by cutting off the edges of the images. Multiple frames are then overlaid and combined into a single frame that is sharp, clear and evenly exposed.

Battery Life

The maximum operating time of the Osmo Action 4 is 160 minutes, with up to 150 minutes when shooting in environments with extreme temperatures, such as -4(F). This is relatively the same battery life as the two previous models. It’s more than enough time to get your shot, and already outlasts most competitors on the market.

You can use the DJI 30W USB-C Charger to fast charge the Osmo Action 4, which charges the battery up to 80% in just 18 minutes. You can also still use the camera when the battery is not inserted by connecting it to the power supply using a Type-C data cable.

Intuitive Control System

The Action 4 is equipped with a magnetic quick-release design that allows you to switch things up at any moment. You can easily go vertical with native vertical shooting which lets you capture natural vertical content in seconds. Dual water-stain resistant touchscreens allow the user to make quick adjustments during selfies, mode switching, or video playback without having to turn the camera around.

This camera boasts an 18m waterproof rating which is 2 meters more than its predecessor. Combined with the impressive battery life, you can capture some incredible imagery without having to worry about your dive time.

Comparable DJI Products

The DJI Osmo Action 3 offers almost everything that the newest addition does, besides the 1/1.3-inch sensor. So, if you are looking for 4K 120, 10-bit D-Log, and stellar stabilization for a slightly lower price than the Osmo Action 4, then its predecessor is a worthy option.

With 4K slow-motion footage, exceptional durability, and the 18m waterproofing capabilities, this action camera is sure to take users farther and faster than they’ve ever gone with a camera before.
