I am a professional photographer and content creator who’s constantly on the move. Therefore, I’m always looking for ways to lighten my bag while still able to produce high-quality images and videos. That’s why when Adorama asked if I’d like to take a first look at the new DJI Mini 3 Pro, I jumped at the opportunity. Here are my initial thoughts on DJI’s latest drone.

First Look

I was captivated by its small, lightweight build immediately upon unboxing the drone. At just 249 grams and the size of the palm of my hand, I can’t see why I would create without it. I was also impressed with the new RC controller. Not only does it feel great in your hands, but the built-in screen is a welcomed feature that is guaranteed to improve your experience — no matter how many flights you have under your belt.

With just one day to capture content, I wanted to bring the Mini 3 Pro to shoot around Los Angeles. I am a proud pilot of the original Mavic Pro 1. Therefore, I couldn’t have been more excited to put the DJI Mavic Mini 3 Pro to the test.

In The Field

The first thing I noticed once I got the Mini 3 Pro in the field was how quiet it was. While that may not initially seem like a big deal, there are plenty of situations when a quiet drone is valuable. This is helpful to avoid any unwanted attention when flying.

I was concerned how the Mini 3 Pro would perform in windy conditions, given its size and weight. While you never hope for wind when flying, a rare windy day in Los Angeles provided the perfect opportunity to test its capabilities. While the palm trees were swaying side to side, the drone seemed unphased and produced incredibly smooth footage.

In addition to the noticeable upgrades to the drone itself, the new RC controller deserves to be highlighted. I have only ever flown using my phone’s screen. Therefore, I can’t tell you enough how much I loved having a dedicated screen built into the controller. Between the large bright screen and the clean UI, it made it easier than ever to compose shots.

The Perfect Entry Level Drone

What’s truly impressive about the new Mini 3 Pro is that it packs a lot of the same features as the larger drones in DJI’s lineup, while also including several new features such as:

  • Larger sensor size when compared to the Mavic Mini 2
  • Fast aperture at 1.7 for better low light performance
  • New three-axis mechanical gimbal for improved video stabilization and capturing vertical content
  • 34-minute flight time
  • 4K/60 video capabilities
  • Really quiet during flight
  • FPV Mode giving users a safe introduction to the exciting new type of flying
  • All-new RC controller for improved user flying experience
  • Built-in beginner tutorials and creation ideas
  • DJI FLY App built-in tools

Final Thoughts

If I was looking for just one drone to capture all of my content for social media, this new Mini 3 Pro would be it. While you won’t capture the same level of detail as the Mavic 3 or 2S, I was very impressed with both the photos and videos captured during my testing. Between its small footprint, new RC controller, 4K/60 video capabilities, and 3-axis gimbal that allows for vertical content, this is a no-brainer for both entry-level drone pilots and experienced creators alike.
