Canon just unveiled an entire lineup of new imaging tools, and the new Canon RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens is among the crop of new Canon EOS R mirrorless gear. The L-series, IS USM super telephoto lens is nicely fashioned to photograph wildlife, sports, and even aerial photography. It is built compact and travel-ready, but holds onto image quality and versatility throughout the focal range.

The Canon RF100-500mm brings sharpness and clarity to the super telephoto range. The camera works with the EOS R system to provide up to five stops of shake correction that greatly reduces blur. To further improve lucidity, the RF100-500mm includes three different image stabilization modes: standard, panning, and during exposure only. Standard mode is geared toward shooting stationary subjects, panning mode smooths out movement when side-to-side panning or up-down tilting, and during exposure only mode is ideal for tracking.
Canon equipped the RF100-500mm with Dual Nano USM focus motors that play a key role in fast and sharp autofocus. Whether you’re shooting stills or video, the near-silent motors keep tracking subjects seamlessly. On top of the great autofocus, the Canon RF100-500mm uses a 12-pin communication system to keep up with the hefty amount of camera data being transferred. The system ensures important shooting data such as AF and image stabilization are communicated timely.
And with a minimum focusing distance of just three feet and a max aperture range of F4.5-7.1, creators have the versatility to document otherwise difficult settings.
Professional and durable build:
The lens itself is dependable and lightweight without sacrificing quality. The Canon RF100-500m combines one super ultra low dispersion lens with six ultra low dispersion lenses to ward off chromatic aberrations and retain image quality throughout the focal range. The lens has a fluoride coating, with sealing in the right places for dust and weather resistance. Even the lens hood has a nifty side window to slide in and out speciality filters with ease.
Finally, if 500mm isn’t enough, the lens is compatible with both the RF1.4x extender and the RF2x extender for considerable added distance.
