Canon has updated and upgraded its top compact digital cameras: The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS has the world’s first 50x optical zoom lens, with a 24-1200mm (35mm equivalent range); the Canon PowerShot G15 boasts a new 5x optical zoom with an f/1.8-2.8 wide aperture, a 12.1MP CMOS Sensor and a familiar DSLR-like feel; and the Canon PowerShot S110 is the first pocket-sized Canon with built-in Wi-Fi, and also has a top ISO of 12,800.
All three new Canon cameras, as well as the just-announced Canon EOS 6D, will be available in October.
Canon PowerShot SX50 HS
The Canon PowerShot SX50HS can, for the moment, stake the claim as the worlds longest-range superzoom compact camera, with a 50x optical zoom lens. The camera is built around a 12.1MP CMOS sensor, which they say will produce high-quality images up to ISO 6400. The camera can record 1080p HD video with stereo sound and high-speed autofocus. Canon claims AF time is minimal for reduced shutter lag time.

Canon PowerShot G15
The Canon PowerShot G15 skipped over the G13 and G14 (we hardly knew ‘em!), offering a faster 5x optical zoom lens with an f/1.8 wide aperture at the wide-angle setting. A compact camera, its control layout and many of its features are borrowed from the Canon EOS DSLR series. Built around a 12.1MP CMOS sensor, the camera can capture full HD video with stereo sound, RAW+JPEG images, and souped up autofocus, which Canon says reduces lag time. In fact, they claim a 53% reduction in lag time compared to the G12, down to 0.22 second. A six-way image stabilization accommodates for normal use, panning, shift-type camera shake (typical for macro photography), powered (good for telephoto shots), dynamic for video, and tripod detection.

Canon PowerShot S110
Finally, Canon announced the new version of its popular flagship pocket camera, the Canon PowerShot S110. Its predecessors have been voted as favorite pocket camera for many professional photographers. It is built around a 12MP CMOS sensor, shoots 12-bit multi aspect RAW+JPEG, and has a new 5x optical zoom lens that starts at 24mm and f/2, and a top ISO of 12,800. Canon claims a 38% reduction in lag time, down to 0.25 sec. The camera sports a touch-panel LCD monitor and is the first of the Canon S line with built-in Wi-Fi.

The powerful new PowerShot G15 builds upon the success of the G-series providing some of the most advanced features in Canon’s PowerShot lineup. The PowerShot G15 continues this tradition with a new 28mm wide-angle f/1.8 – f/2.8 lens with 5x optical zoom, great for low-light shooting or dramatic shallow depth of field. The PowerShot G15 includes Canon’s HS SYSTEM where the camera’s DIGIC 5 image processor and newly designed Canon 1/1.7-inch 12.1-megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS image sensor work in tandem to enhance low-light image quality at a maximum ISO speed of 12800.
