Canon has just announced the launch of a new series of lenses for the company’s EF cinema lens lineup designed for full-frame cameras — the Flex Zoom Lens Series. These lenses are intended for cinema-level productions that value workflow efficiency and stellar image quality. Along with this news, Canon also announced the first lenses that will be released in this series — the CN-E20-50mm T2.4 L F/FP Wide-Angle Zoom Lens and the CN-E45-135mm T2.4 L F/FP Telephoto Zoom Lens.

The First in the Canon Flex Zoom Lens Series

Both of these lenses are ideal for high-end cinema productions to achieve high image quality and exceptional optical performance. Both lenses are available for EF and PL mounts and designed for large-format cameras. The major difference between the lenses — of course — is the focal length. Let’s take a look at the key features that both of these models have to offer.

8K Optical Performance

Canon’s advanced optical technology and lens coating allows for 8K performance through the zoom range. The 8K-compatible chromatic aberration correction reduces color bleeding, and the light-shielding design and optimized coatings reduce ghosting and flaring. Not only that — the lenses offers superb color rendition and detail.

11-Blade Aperture

Both lenses have an 11-blade iris to provide stunning bokeh while an internal focusing system will minimize focus breathing. The odd number of blades diffuse the glow of high luminance subjects for softer imaging. This means you can expect to be impressed when focusing in on subjects’ faces.

Constant T-Stop Value of T2.4

These lenses are Canon’s first full-frame cinema zoom lenses with a consistent maximum T-stop value of T2.4. No matter the zoom range, these large aperture lenses allow for more light to reach the sensor.

The Latest in Metadata Support

The Canon Flex Zoom Lens series will be compliant with a full scope of communication standards. This is thanks to its lens-to-camera communication function including Cooke /i Technology (PL mount) and EF mount. You will be able to display or record lens metadata with ease. You can also utilize camera functions such as aberration correction, peripheral illumination correction, and focus guide function with compatible cameras.

Both the CN-E20-50mm T2.4 L F/FP Wide-Angle Zoom Lens and the CN-E45-135mm T2.4 L F/FP Telephoto Zoom Lens will be available for purchase at Adorama soon. Stay tuned for more news about the Canon Flex Zoom Lens series.
