In an exciting new development, Blackmagic just released the all-new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2. This next-generation model of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K offers many of the great features we’ve come to love — plus some new perks, such as an adjustable touchscreen and improved battery life. Let’s take a look at the other features offered:

  • Made with carbon fiber polycarbonate composite
  • 6144 x 3456 sensor with 13 stops and dual native
  • ISO up to 25,600
  • Compatible with most EF lenses
  • Adjustable LCD screen
  • Blackmagic Generation 5 Color Science
  • Professional mini XLR inputs with 48 volt phantom power
  • Larger NP-F570 battery

Design

The camera is made out of carbon fiber polycarbonate composite for a lightweight-yet-sturdy exterior. Its large, adjustable 5-inch LCD touchscreen promises focus precision for every shot. It uses simple tap-and-swipe gestures for setting adjustments, including on-screen focus and exposure tools. The multifunction handgrip provides all controls for recording, ISO, WB and shutter angle right at your fingertips. Its compact size also includes professional mini XLR audio inputs with 48-volt phantom power and uses a NP-F570 battery.

Footage

This miniaturized handheld design does not hold back on providing everything you need to capture crisp, 6k footage. The camera’s mount is compatible with a wide range of EF lenses. It has a large 6144 x 3456 Super 35 HDR sensor that will work perfectly when shooting shallow depth of fields. It also features 13 stops and dual native ISO up to 25,600. This means, even in low-light situations, this camera can perform with peak clarity. You can also expect Blackmagic’s Generation 5 ColorScience, which many have come to love in this camera’s older model. This color science is known to handle Blackmagic RAW image processing to maintain color and dynamic in post production.

Post Production

All Pocket Cinema Camera models include a full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio. This is an editing software that was created to assist you with all areas of post production — saving you time, money, and improving your workflow. It allows for easy color correction, VFX and motion graphics, and audio editing — just to name a few. To learn more about Davinci Resolve, check out:

Final Thoughts

Based on what we know so far, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 appears to be a great option for professional filmmakers. At a price point just under $2,000, it’s a versatile camera option that is lightweight enough to include on any set. Blackmagic clearly saw the success of its previous model and found a way to improve its already-impressive features.
