Apple has expanded their line of wireless, in-ear headphones with some significant upgrades to one of its signature products. The Sound:
A premier feature of the new AirPods Pro is the noise-cancelling ability. Only AirPods Pro continuously adapt to the shape of the listener’s ear by the snugness of the earphone tips to promote ideal noise cancellation. In addition, each AirPod has an external and internal microphone to detect sounds and then counter them with anti-noise to create silence. The noise-cancelling technology adjusts 200 times per second to accommodate any setting you’re in and any audio you’re listening to. If the silence is unwanted and you need to interact with the world around you, users can switch to Transparency Mode, which will “cancel” the noise cancelling and allow outside noises in.
The headphones use Adaptive EQ to tune and retune audio for the richest and fullest listening experience. Beyond EQ, the AirPods are equipped with a high-excursion, low-distortion speaker driver that is powered by a high dynamic range amplifier to deliver deep bass sounds and crisp mid-to-high frequencies. The same internal-facing microphone that assists with noise cancellation also helps to fine tune the sound that is being projected for the ultimate experience.
The Design:
The AirPods Pro pack a lot of technology into a small, efficient body. Everything is powered by the Apple-designed H1 chip — from the noise cancelling to Siri. Users have full control over their listening experience using the “touch sensor” on the stem of the headphone. Pressing the touch sensor anywhere from one to three times will pause your music, skip the song, answer a phone call, and so on. Naturally, the headphones are sweat- and water-resistant so don’t be shy to jog in the rain or sweat in the gym. A mesh-microphone is included on the outside to improve phone call quality in windy situations.
As with any in-ear headphones, users want their product to fit comfortably and snugly. With the new AirPods Pro, Apple has included three different sizes — from small to large — of flexible silicone tips that click onto the headphones. The adjustable, customizable tips ensure headphones stay secure and contribute to the overall listening experience.
Battery life is always a main question, and the AirPods Pro deliver results. The familiar, accompanying charging case holds up to 24 hours of listening life, while a single charge gives around 4.5 hours of listening life.
