Back in June, Apple announced the newest Mac Pro and teased the incredible amount of processing ability and storage that it contains. Now, professionals are finally able to place orders for the dynamic creative tool, as well as the new Pro Display XDR Monitor.
Here’s everything you need to know about the latest from Apple:
Apple Mac Pro Key Features:
- Xeon Processors – up to 28 cores
- 64 PCI Express Lanes
- Up to 1.5 TB of memory
- 12 physical DIMM slots
- Accommodates two Radeon Pro Vega II Duos for up to 128GB of video memory
- Apple Afterburner accelerator card
- Brand new design
Most Powerful Desktop to Date
The new Mac Pro is by far the most powerful desktop Apple has offered to date. The Pro comes with up to 28 cores of Xeon processors and 64 PCI Express lanes to smoothly simulate an iOS app on several devices, play hundreds of virtual instruments, or render a full-scale production. It works with more than 300W of power, but don’t worry about overheating — the thermal architecture allow for unhindered performance at all times.
For the first time, The Mac Pro can house up to 1.5 TB of storage using 12 physical DIMM slots. With this much memory, video editors can keep massive projects with RAW footage right on the desktop, and analysts can accommodate huge data sets — no external SSDs required. For even more personalization, the Mac Pro includes eight PCI Expansion slots for system customization.
Perhaps most impressive, the new Mac Pro graphics architecture allows for up to 128GB of video memory. Users can choose from the Radeon Pro Vega II or the Radeon Pro Vega II Duo, both powerful graphics cards. For 8K video editors, 3D animators, or professionals needing an extra kick, the Apple Afterburner accelerator card can decode up to three streams of 8K ProRes RAW or 12 streams of 4K ProRes RAW in real time.
And the pros already agree. Stever Warner, Vice President of Digital Video and Audio at Adobe, says, “Apple continues to innovate for video professionals. With the power offered by the new Mac Pro, editors will be able to work with 8K without the need for any proxy workflows in a future release of Premiere Pro.”

A robust desktop deserves a capable monitor. The new Pro Display XDR Monitor has a 32-inch LCD screen with a Retina 6K resolution. At 6016 x 3384, the XDR monitor has more than 20 million pixels and produces a stunningly detailed image and 40 percent more screen area than the previous Retina 5K display.
To create a stunning dynamic range, the Mac Pro sustains 1,000 nits of brightness with 1,600 nits of peak brightness, and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Whether you’re color correcting, animating, or designing, you’ll notice the exceptional quality the Pro Display brings.
