The Fujifilm X-T1 is an outstanding camera that brings a DSLR-like experience to MILC users. If you’ve already bought the X-T1 or are considering it, here are four ways you can accessorize it to do the kinds of photography you love.

Travel and Adventure Photography

Thanks to its size and weight, the Fujifilm X-T1 is a great travel companion. While the 18-55mm kit lens is a good general-purpose lens, the Fujifilm XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR is an even better all-around lens, thanks to its extended focal range. Like the X-T1, it is weatherproof so you can shoot under any conditions including pouring rain. If you’d rather pack light, consider 2-3 primes, including the 35mm f/1.4, near-fisheye 14mm f/2.8, and the 60mm f/2.4 lenses, for a good range from wide to moderate telephoto with wider apertures.

Also consider a flash such as the compact Fujifilm EF-X20 for occasions when light may not be sufficient, and a compact tripod like the 3Pod P5CFH Carbon Fiber 5-section FlatFold Tripod, which collapses down to a carry-on friendly 13.5 inches so you can go for the best image quality possible.

Street Photography

Fujifilm XF 18mm F/2.0 Lens

Thanks to its fast AF, manual overrides for everything, and mulitiple ways to assure manual focus is accurate, the Fujifilm X-T1 is as well-suited for street photography as its older sibling, the Fujifilm X-Pro 1. A great street photography lens is the Fujifilm XF 18mm f/2 lens, which covers the equivalent of a 27mm lens on a full-frame camera. If you already own Leica M-mount lenses, you can use them on the X-T1 via this adapter.

Sports Photography

Thanks to its fast autofocus, burst rate and AF tracking features, the X-T1 is ready for action photography. The Fujifilm XF 55-200mm (83-300mm full-frame equivalent) f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS lens will get you close to the action. To keep your camera stable, consider investing in a light, convenient monopod such as the lightweight, low-cost Dolica 68-inch Monopod, with ball head included.

Family and Portrait Photography

Fujifilm EF-42 Shoe Mount Flash

The Fujifilm X-T1 paired with the 60mm f/2.4 lens is great for on-location portrait photography. Add the affordable Fujifilm EF-42 TTL flash and Flashpoint Mini Soft Box Diffuser to provide soft, flattering light. Move the flash off camera for even more control of the light, and control it via a RadioPopper Nano. (You can expand this by adding more flashes and Radio Popper Receivers). You’ll also need a light stand and a shoe mount flash adapter.
