Here we go again, with our second installment of favorite photo-related groups on Facebook (you can read the first edition and check out more interesting groups here). This time around, we’re looking at the ones with lots of members — in the 5-6 figure range. If they’re so popular, they must have something going for them, right? Let’s find out!
Photography (Art & Photography)
Followers: 231,000
This page is filled with mostly color scenics and grand panoramas, cityscapes, nature photography, macro shots, and more. Submissions and reviews are encouraged. While it is officially about both paintings and photography, almost all of the images we saw were photos. Many of the images look like the kind used for interior wall art so if you’re trying to market your photos this is a good group to use to hone your skills.
Street Photography In The World
Members: 182,500
If there’s any decisive evidence that street photography is a worldwide phenomenon, the proof can be found in this very active group. From the streets of New York to Burma, Jerusalem, Rome, various cities in the UK, India, China, Russia and more, both the quality and quantity of images is high. The group is tightly moderated, which helps keep it focused on good photos. It’s a great group to join if you’re looking for critiques or want to see good work to inspire you.
Professional Photographers
Members: 202,000
This is a professional group that holds its members to a high standard with a specific purpose: It’s a submission group to get published in a magazine. They’re looking for any subject, but they request EXIF information and location along with the photos. If images are approved for publication they’ll request high-resolution versions for print.
“Life is in the Details” Macro Photography
Members: 43,000
Do you own a macro lens—or have you been thinking about getting one? This group is filled with inspiring images that show how macro photos transform the world by capturing details you might otherwise pass by without noticing.
52Frames
Followers: 18,600
This worthy group was suggested to us… so here it is! The 52Frames group is an international community of photographers from around the world who participate in a weekly photo challenge. Each week, participants have 7 days to go out, take a photo, and submit it to the community. It is this creative challenge that not only improves one craft but also enables you to see the world differently.
