I’ve been a huge fan of What the Ducksince the very early days, and it is great to have the newest collection of comic strips sitting on my bookshelf.

This new volume, What the Duck, a W.T. Duck Collection, by Andews McMeel Publishing ($12.99, ISBN: 978-0-7407-8096-7) picks up where Johnson’s Lulu.com/self-published What the Duck, Rule of Nerds ($32.00, ISBN: 978-1-4303-2406-5) left off.

For fans of Aaron Johnson’s brand of humor and wry observation, What the Duck, A W.T. Duck Collection, can be dangerous to read in public places, because you’ll likely find yourself frequently laughing out loud at the gags. (And there’s nothing unsettling about a lone passenger on a train or bus laughing to themselves, now is there?)

Aaron Johnson’s What the Duck manages to both perfectly reflect and perfectly satirize the current state of photography, and this collection should appeal equally to both long-standing and newly introduced fans of the strip. And $12.99 to support Johnson’s continued brilliant and twisted take on the current world of photography is a great deal.

[About the photo: As we discuss in the TechTock Podcast, fans of the strip have been sending in photos of their WTD plushie toys from all across the world–on vacation, at work, and more. And now that the book is starting to get into readers’ hands, photos of fans with the book are starting to show up on the What the Duck Facebook fan page. My shot of the Duck lounging in my reading chair reading “What the Duck, a W.T. Duck Collection” joins this ever-growing collection. Part of the brilliance of the What the Duck phenomenon is the inclusionary and participatory nature of the strip, on WhattheDuck.com as well as Facebook, Twitter, and elsewhere.]
