As we inch ever closer to the submission deadline for Adorama’s new reality series “Top Photographer with Nigel Barker,”(#topphotographer) the publicity machine has been earning its keep by getting the word out on this much anticipated show. Slated to premiere later this fall, “Top Photographer” has been receiving top exposure through various outlets including PetaPixel, Dujour, Cheddar and CNN. In fact, you can check out Nigel Barker’s appearance on CNNMoney in the embed below:

There’s also an in depth interview with Barker on Fstoppers. Barker elaborates on the selection process which will include amateurs as well as professionals. “We know from Instagram there are a lot of people who apply cool filters, and they have shots they ‘fluked upon.’ (The contestant) could be someone who’s a brilliant iPhone photographer and all about Instagram. That’s okay if they’re really good at it and have a good following and that’s their thing; these days, that’s a form of photography.” According to the article, the selection process involves Nigel Barker and an Adorama staff member. Barker does mention he expects the “standard of technical knowledge” to be professional in scope, that judges made up of industry professionals will not hold back whether one is a smart phone photographer or a seasoned paparazzi.
For some, it could be quite the intimidating experience. It’s par for the course when you’re competing against talented individuals in front of a streaming audience. However, should you still be interested in throwing your digital hat into the ring while hoping to vie for the title that is the series’ namesake, that deadline may have come and gone by the time this article is published. You have until Friday, August 12 to submit your imagery. Having said that, here’s another of our favorite images being vetted through the selection process (Think of it as one more update to last week’s article on some of our favorite submissions), courtesy of @irenamandel:
Hopefully this will peak your interest enough to watch the show once it streams on AdoramaTV in November. And best of luck to those future contestants competing for Adorama’s first “Top Photographer.” Gear valued at $50,000 is up for the taking. That and the opportunity to share an exhibit of one’s work hosted by Nigel Barker himself. We’ll be following the contestants’ progress with eager anticipation.
You still have time to enter as the deadline is August 12 at 11:59 pm. Submit your photo here.
