Gamers rejoice — 2022 is already off to a hot start! With so many game releases, we are living our best lives. From Zombie apocalypses, to catching Pokémon, to exploring incredibly vast new worlds, there is a game for everyone. With only so little time, which game deserves your attention? We’re breaking down our best new video games of 2022 that you do not want to miss.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus (Nintendo Switch)
Your dreams of becoming a Pokémon master are made possible again in this new open world turn based RPG from Game Freak. What sets this Pokémon game apart from previous ones is not only the “open world”, but also the new ways to capture Pokémon. The world has five distinct zones with its own climate and Pokémon that you can explore. Capturing Pokémon has been completely overhauled with a third person camera allowing for stealthy captures, and strategic items. When it comes to battling, speed is now incredibly important as it determines turn order and some Pokémon could even attack twice. Pokémon has continued to steal our hearts with its beauty, cuteness, and child like excitement. Whether you’re looking for a game on the go, or have that itch to jump back into the Pokémon universe, this is one Nintendo Switch game you do not want to miss.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves (PlayStation 5)
This Uncharted bundle comes with two newly remastered games: Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, exclusively for the PlayStation 5. These staple games in the PlayStation family are story and character driven. In Uncharted 4, you play as Nathan Drake who gets thrown back into the world of thieves with his brother Sam. Winner of over 150 Game of the Year awards, you will be engaged in high octane combat, death defying traversal, and relentless adventure. In Uncharted: Lost Legacy you play as Chloe Frazer (Uncharted 2) who must venture through India to relive her past and create her own legacy. Chloe gets a much-needed backstory filled with rich cinematics, complex puzzles, and a fantastic supporting cast. I strongly recommend playing the Uncharted games in order so the story packs more of a punch! This is an incredible remaster bundle to add to your PlayStation collection.
Dying Light 2 (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC)
The sequel to the massive zombie infested open world — Dying Light 2 — is officially here! The best part is, you do not need to have played the first one to jump into this one. Dying Light 2 focuses on combat, and exploration as you are tasked with finding your lost sister. The catch is you’ve been bitten and must always be near a light source or you become what it is you fear — a zombie. With a completely revamped parkour system that feels exhilarating as you catapult yourself from building to building, and a visceral combat system, you’ll be wanting to max out all your skills. This game has over 500 hours of gameplay to sink your teeth into! So, are you afraid of the dark?
Horizon Forbidden West (PlayStation 4|5)
Alloy is back with a gigantic new map to explore. I strongly recommend playing the first game, Horizon Zero Dawn, or else the story may be confusing. Alloy must now travel West to save Earth from dying. Although, standing in her way are massive machines, deadly environments, and new tribes. The game takes place on our Earth thousands of years in the future where machines roam the land. Horizon’s upgrade system is incredibly detailed allowing players to hunt for the resources they need to enhance their equipment. Plus, you’ll be just as captivated on side quests as you will be on the main path. With incredible fast load times, stunning visuals and an unforgettable world, you’ll be sure to get lost in this game.
Elden Ring (PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC)
FromSoftware is back with a massive open world Souls game. Famous for their unforgiving combat and stunning character design, Elden Ring is arguably one of the greatest fantasy action RPGs ever made. The most important part of Elden Ring is the character creation and class selection, which is so comprehensive and thorough that there are tons of guides online to help you. Your class will determine your starting weapon and attributes so you definitely don’t want to make this decision quickly. The world is so massive that even after 50 hours of playtime players are still finding new things. Elden Ring is all about remembering fight patterns and that “Get Gud” attitude. With no level cap you’ll be lost for hours in this gorgeous world grinding your way to become the strongest there is. In case you can’t do it alone, Elden Ring does have a co-op mode to help with the tougher fights.
Gran Turismo 7 (PlayStation 4|5)
One of the truest driving simulators of our time, Gran Turismo is back with stunning graphics that will make your eyes water. With over 420 cars to drive, each car handles differently and feels unique. You’re able to collect, tune, race and customize hundreds of cars to create your dream car. The sound of Gran Turismo will absolutely blow you away and you will feel like you are right on the racetrack. Whether you’re a casual racer, collector, or in it to win it, you will be blown away by this high-quality racer. If you’re looking to enhance your gameplay, be sure to check out the Thrustmaster Racing Wheel.
We’re only a few months into 2022 and there are enough games to fill your entire library! These games will certainly keep you busy throughout the year. Deciding on which game to grab first can be a difficult choice but hopefully this list can help narrow down the game that’s perfect for you.
