Tamron Lenses Top TIPA Awards for Fifth Consecutive Year

The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), meets annually to recognize what it calls “the best products in the photo and imaging market.” This year, Tamron won two awards in the lenses category, for a pair of their zoom lenses.

Tamron, which has won TIPA awards every year since 2014, continues this streak in 2018 with their latest win. TIPA’s membership is composed of thirty photo magazines all over the world, which vote on each year’s winners. And this year, here are Tamron’s two winners:

The first, the Tamron 70-210mm F/4 Di VC USD, won in the “Best DSLR Telephoto Zoom Lens” category. This full-frame lens, announced by Tamron only two months ago, is available for  for Nikon mounts, and for preorder at the same price for Canon mounts. Featuring a constant maximum aperture of f/4 throughout the entire zoom range, this lens will be a go-to for the serious outdoor enthusiast or for anyone wanting a non-pro price lens with pro-level features.

Tamron also highlights some other qualities that make this lens very attractive:

  • Internal zoom mechanism means that you don’t have lens creep or your lens hitting the fence you’re trying to shoot through
  • Manual focus override means that you can override the autofocus without changing settings on the lens
  • 4 stops worth of vibration compensation
  • Moisture resistance

The other winner was the Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD, winning the “Best DSLR Superzoom Lens” category. This is an APS-C lens, available in both Canon and Nikon mounts, for . Intended for the enthusiast looking to carry the one lens to rule them all, this lens reaches from a 28mm to an incredible 620mm equivalent on your APS-C sensor. This lens has been available since the summer of 2017, and during that time, has garnered an impressive 4.4 out of five stars on adorama.com after 50 reviews. 

Some of the key features of this lens include:

  • 1:2.9 maximum magnification ratio, which coupled with a minimum focusing distance of 17.7”, allows for macro shots
  • Weighs 24.9 ounces, with a length of 4.8″ when not extended, which makes this a serious travel lens
  • 2.5 stops of vibration compensation
  • “Zoom Lock” button keeps the lens from creeping in your bag or when you’re pointing it downwards
