Sony today revamped the top end of its imaging product lineup, unveiling a new pro DSLR, the Sony STL-A99, the world’s first compact digital camera with a 35mm-sized imaging sensor, a new mirrorless interchangeable-lens compact camera that combines the best of pro and consumer categories, and an interchangeable-lens video camera that accepts both Sony NEX and Alpha-mount lenses. The Sony Alpha SLT-A99, available now for pre-order at Adorama, is a pro-level, full-frame DSLR featuring a 24.3MP CMOS sensor, SLT (fixed-position mirror) technology, 14-bit RAW processing, an ISO range of 100-25,600, 102 AF points, a 2,360k dot resolution OLED electronic viewfinder and 3-inch 921k dot resolution viewfinder, full 1920×1080 pixel, 60p HD video output in AVCHD, a built-in stereo mic, auto HDR, ultrasonic anti-dust system, built-in flash, and more. The camera offers a shutter speed range of 30-1/8000 second, a shutter life rated at 200,000 cycles, and several intriguing new technologies. It is said to be the lightest full-frame DSLR to date. A full range of flash, new lenses and other accessories are being announced to accompany the Sony Alpha SLT-A99.

The Sony DSC-RX1, which is available now for pre-order at Adorama, is the world’s first 35mm compact digital camera, with a small camera body that houses 24.3MP full-frame sensor. The camera has a built-in 35mm f/2.0 Carl Zeiss Sonnar T lens. Taking advantage of the high-quality images that a full-frame sensor can deliver, the camera is said to shoot “clean” high-ISO images up to 25,600, and is claimed to have a fast 0.13 second autofocus acquisition speed.

Sony NEX-6 also available now for pre-order at Adorama, was introduced today as a fast-focusing, more compact competitor to starter DSLRs with familiar DSLR-type operation and a range of features designed to appeal to experienced photographers looking for a responsive compact digital camera system, as well as to beginners who want the image quality and flexibility of an interchangeable-lens camera with a 16MP APS sensor that is known to deliver outstanding image quality. The NEX-6 is the second Sony NEX series camera to feature WiFi and will use the just-announced PlayMemories Camera Apps.

Sony NEX-VG30: In addition to the new still cameras, flash and lenses, Sony today introduced the NEX-VG30, an interchangeable-lens camcorder that accepts Sony A and E-mount interchangeable lenses designed for DSLRs and NEX mirrorless cameras. Featuring a 16MP EXMOR APS-C CMOS sensor, the camera has direct power zoom with variable speed control, a built-in mic designed to capture 5.1 format audio, mic and headphone jacks with audio level control and XLR adapter capability, the ability to capture full-resolution RAW and JPEG images at 6fps, manual control, 24p native recording, image stabilization, focus peaking, a range of picture effects, and more. The Sony NEX-VG30 will be available body only or as the VG30H, which will include an 18-200mm zoom lens. Pricing and availability to be announced.
