Sony PXW-X200 Pro Camcorder

Sony today released its latest XDCAM solid-state memory camcorder, the Sony PXW-X200. Built around an improved 1/2-inch type Exmore 3COMOS sensor, the camera boasts a 17x optical zoom lens and XAVC Intra/Long GOP recording with 4:2:2 10-bit sampling. It is the successor to the Sony PMW-200 and has MPEG HD422 (50Mbps) recording capability.

Sony says the camera will produce high-quality Full HD resolution video without pixel interpolation. It offers high sensitivity and low noise with a wide dynamic range and is optimized for professionals shooting under challenging lighting conditions. It is designed for news-gathering, documentaries, events, weddings, education, corporate production and other applications. Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC functions allow for live streaming audio and video. There are two SxS media card slots for simultaneous recording, a Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe, and GPS via a firmware update planned to be released next year.

By connecting with internet routers, proxy or high-resolution files can be transferred to a cloud server to begin the editing process even while the location shoot is still in progress.

A live streaming function will be made available through a future firmware upgrade, and the addition of an LTE USB module (sold separately) will enable live video and audio to be remotely streamed, watched, and recorded.

The Sony PXW-X200 is expected at Adorama in November for $7,790. It can be pre-ordered now.

Sony PXW-FS7 Compact Pro 4K Camcorder

Sony also announced the Sony PXW-FS7, a pro-level compact 4K Camcorder with a Super 35m CMOS sensor, the ability to record long form, and native E-mount technology. The camcorder records using the XAVC-L codec, and records onto XQD memory cards. It is designed for “cine?ma ve?rite?”-style documentaries and reality TV to magazine shows, commercial and corporate applications.

In this video, Michael Artsis interviews Sony about this new camera.

Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS

Introduced last week at the IBC tradeshow, the Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS is a powerful, dust- and moisture-proof zoom lens designed for cinema productions, but it doubles as a great still photography lens when paired with the Sony a7 full-frame cameras. The lens features the world’s first SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) drive in a cinema lens, which promotes quiet zoom and smooth iris control.

It has three control rings (zoom, focus and aperture) and manual control for large-format production. It’s the first lens in its price range to maintain plane of focus while zooming and field of view while focusing, both important features for video capture. It is compatible with both full-frame and APS-C sensor cameras, and is a native E-mount lens.

The Sony PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS is tentatively expected to be available from Adorama in December for $2,499.
