Today, Sony has announced its brand new member of the RX series: the RX100 VI compact camera that’s sure to be new addition to your travel photography kit thanks to its impressive 8.3x optical zoom.
The camera’s most prominent feature is its stabilized 24-200mm, f/2.8-f/4.5 8.3X large aperture high magnification zoom lens that comes with a speedy 1.0-type 20.1MP Exmor RS CMOS sensor and a DRAM chip.
“We’re continuing to innovate with our RX camera lineup, providing our customers new and different ways to capture what they’ve never been able to capture before,” said Neal Manowitz, Vice President of Digital Imaging for Sony Electronics, in the announcement. “The new RX100 VI is the latest example, delivering extensive reach, extremely advanced autofocus, high-speed shooting and more, while still being able to slip easily into your pocket. It’s the ultimate pocket travel camera.”
The RX100 VI also includes a new and improved high-density tracking autofocus takes just 0.03 seconds to focus (compared to the previous 0.05 seconds), and is dubbed by Sony as the “world’s fastest AF speed.” To note, the camera also includes eye auto-focus that’s approximately twice as accurate as the RX100 V.
The AF speed, when combined with the 315 focal-plane phase-detection AF points, covers approximately 65 percent of the frame, and include high-speed continuous shooting even up to 24fps, still at full AF/AE tracking. The unit’s optical image stabilization is comparable to a 4.0-stop faster shutter speed.
The camera also includes 4K capabilities, and brand new 4K HDR (a first for the Cyber-shot series), as well, because of the new Hybrid Log-Gamma profile and allows for high-resolution 4K shooting with a full pixel readout — but no pixel binding — for smooth and immediate HDR workflow.
The RX100 VI’s electronic viewfinder makes for a natural addition for vloggers, thanks to its 180-degree upward rotation — you can view your video real-time as you film it. The camera’s touch shutter — a first for the RX line — can be turned on by tapping the LCD screen, giving you even more options for selecting settings.
The The RX100 VI will be available for preorder on Thursday, June 7, 2018, for at Adorama.com.
