Profoto introduces Pro-8, revolutionary digital flash generator
Profoto, manufacturer of professional-quality electronic flash lighting systems and light shapers, announced today a revolutionary new power pack called the Pro-8. The company is well known for its rugged Pro-6 and Pro-7 lines of strobes that have become the de facto standard for rental houses around the world.
The company used the knowledge gained from its own research, along with feedback from photographers, dealers and rental personnel, to deliver performance and repeatability previously unavailable. First and foremost is an extraordinary recycle speed of 0.9 seconds at 2400 watt-seconds. It’s also capable of delivering 20 flashes per second at lower outputs and up to 1000 full power flashes per hour. At the same time, the super-short flash duration of up to 1/12,000th of a second provides ultra sharp high-speed stopping capabilities. The Pro-8 carries on the Profoto tradition of precision repeatability and color stability. Thanks to a newly-developed Pre-Ignition-Flash-Plasma technology (PiPE) the new strobe delivers output accurate to +/-1/50th of an f/stop and totally consistent color temperature.
The Pro-8 can be adjusted over a ten f/stop range, from 5 watt-seconds to a full 2400 watt-seconds, and at an adjustable ratio of up to 1:9. This gives photographers the advantages similar to having two generators in one box. It also comes with the new Profoto Air Remote receiver built-in for wireless power control and triggering. The Pro-8 is designed with ease of use and ergonomics in mind, based on the philosophy of “look, listen and touch.” The result allows the photographer to concentrate on making images, not fussing with equipment. And like all Profoto products, the Pro-8 takes the full line of Profoto’s Light Shaping Tool system, including reflectors, grids, snoots, softboxes, reflectors and much more. This system is used to create a distinct optical lighting quality.
