OM-SYSTEM-OM-3-M.Zuiko-Digital-ED-100-400mm-17mm-and-25mm-lenses
OM System has announced four new products, including a new camera and three lenses. The camera body called the OM-3, is a compact vintage-style camera that feels nostalgic in look and feel but is equipped with all of the latest and greatest new technologies. In addition, a new compact super telephoto has been introduced to the M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 IS lens lineup. Finally, those looking for compact, durable, wide-angle primes will be interested in the M.Zuiko Digital 17mm and 25mm f/1.8, perfect for low light or any scene that demands beautiful bokeh. There is a lot to cover in today’s announcement, so let’s jump right into the action.
OM System has blended the classic aesthetics of an SLR camera with the features of a modern digital camera to create the brand-new OM-3. This model reintroduces the creative dial, allowing photographers complete in-camera control over their images with customizable monochrome and color profiles tailored for any scene. Users can easily switch between slow and fast-motion video with a simple dial turn, and a new computational photography button enables access to in-camera features like focus stacking, HDR, and Live ND. Additionally, the new M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 IS Lens provides impressive reach in a compact and lightweight design. At the same time, the M.Zuiko Digital ED f/1.8 prime lenses offer highly desired focal lengths in similarly compact bodies. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new.
The OM-3 combines the feel of a classic SLR with the performance of a modern digital camera, catering to creators’ needs. Don’t be fooled by its compact, vintage design. This camera has features that enable photographers and videographers to capture stunning images and footage. With a 20-megapixel sensor and a 2.36 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder housed within a premium metal body, the OM-3 has what it takes to satisfy old-fashioned shooters who demand the latest and greatest technology.
The widely requested Creative Dial is making a comeback in the OM-3 camera. It provides creators with incredible control at their fingertips. Users can easily access four Color Profiles, four Monochrome Profiles, the Color Creator, and Art Filters simply by turning the dial. These features give creators more control over their images in-camera. This allows them to nail the perfect shot in the field rather than relying on post-processing to bring their image to life. The Creative Dial is one of the many standout features that make OM System cameras special, so having it on the new OM-3 is undoubtedly something to look forward to.
The OM-3 incorporates a brand-new Computational Photography Button located just to the right of the viewfinder. This button lets you access various in-camera computational photography features. Including Live ND/GND, High Res Shot, HDR, Focus Stacking, and Multiple Exposure. When combined with the Creative Dial mentioned earlier, you can minimize or even eliminate the need for post-processing by using these in-camera features to produce precisely the image you’re after in the field.
The Live GND feature applies a built-in graduated ND filter effect to your images, while Live ND can use an ND filter effect up to ND64. High-resolution Shot captures images up to 80MP with 14-bit RAW colors. Focus Stacking creates images with outstanding depth of field without any post-processing software. These features make the OM-3 an incredibly versatile camera for users who want to get the perfect shot without spending time editing afterward.
The new M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 IS Lens offers a massive reach in a light body. It can reach the 35mm equivalent of 200-800mm and up to 1600mm with the compatible teleconverter. Considering the massive focal length of this lens, its size and weight, along with a removable tripod collar, perfectly complement the compact lenses in the OM System lineup. Finally, 7-Stop Image Sync Stabilization helps capture handheld images, even when at the focal maximum.
This announcement also includes two new compact prime lenses designed for everyday carry. The M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm f/1.8 and M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f/1.8 are lightweight and compact, perfectly fitting on vintage OM-system bodies. With a maximum aperture of f/1.8, these lenses are perfect for situations where you need beautiful background bokeh or a little extra light. Both lenses have a metal structure and a 46mm filter diameter.
In today’s announcement, the OM-3 and three new lenses are designed for urban creatives who value durably built equipment that looks and feels vintage but performs at the highest level with all the latest technology. The OM-3 excels in situations where space and weight are limited, but image quality must remain exceptional. With numerous built-in features that help you create the image you’re after in-camera. It’s also ideal for creators who don’t want to spend hours post-processing their images but would rather nail the shot in-camera. If any of this sounds like you, you will not regret picking up the OM-3 or any of the three new lenses.
The OM-3 is a more compact and vintage-styled version of the OM-1 Mark II. While both cameras share the same sensor and most internal technology and features, the OM-3 has a smaller, retro design. In contrast, the OM-1 Mark II has a more modern body style that is more consistent with what we’re used to seeing on the market today. The OM-1 Mark II is equipped with two SD card slots, while the OM-3 has only one. For those who prefer a modern look and feel in their camera, along with extra SD card space, yet still looking to harness some of the powerful features of the OM-3, the OM-1 Mark II is a great choice.
Those who want to capture the nostalgia of an old-fashioned film camera while benefiting from today’s technological advancements will appreciate the new OM-3. Its lightweight and compact design and three new lenses make it ideal for the walk-around city shooter looking to lighten their load and the size of their kit while still maintaining full creative control over their images. If that sounds like you, look no further than the new OM System, OM-3.
