With 2019 coming to a close, Olympus already has its eye on exciting 2020 product releases. The company has unveiled a roadmap of upcoming lens releases, all of which build upon the Micro Four Thirds technology with a consistent theme: compact, image stabilization, and exceptional image quality.
Apart from the already-announced M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO lens, the company is also adding the following lenses to the lineup:
- M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-45mm F4.0 PRO standard zoom lens
- M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS super telephoto zoom lens
The third lens will be a PRO telephoto zoom lens, but its exact specifications and details are still unknown.
As part of the M.Zuiko PRO series, the 150-400mm lens will be a first-rate super telephoto lens for users. The interchangeable lens will come with a built-in 1.25x teleconverter, a first for Olympus. The converter extends the focal length to 1000mm (a 35mm equivalent), enough distance to capture an athlete down field, or a small bird in at a great height. Images will come out clear even at far lengths, due to in-lens image stabilization. Paired with a Olympus OM-D camera, the stabilization supports 5-axis sync for more reliability. The 150-400mm comes dust-, splash-, and freeze-proof to handle the elements.
For the first two of the new lenses, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-45mm F4.0 PRO, Olympus is planning a creative wide lens for landscapes, street photography, altered portraits, etc. The lens promises to be ultra-compact with stunning image quality. The second lens, a 100-400mm telephoto lens with a maximum aperture between f/5.0-6.3, is ideal for any wildlife, sports, shows, etc.
Stay tuned for more information, including specs and pricing, in 2020.
