Nikon’s got a brand new lens. The AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED is a mid-telephoto prime lens promising to deliver “smooth and beautiful bokeh and edge-to-edge rendering.” According to Nikon’s press release, that is. Thanks to the maximum aperture setting of f/1.4, it also happens to be a fast lens. Now you can capture that smokey, cinematic blur surrounding your subject while positioning your camera from afar.
Using the term “three-dimensional high fidelity” to describe the concept that inspired the development of the lens, Nikon’s NIKKOR 105mm is more capable of capturing three-dimensional objects within a two-dimensional frame in a naturalistic way. It also offers excellent resolution, sharpness and clarity when it comes to images like landscape photography. So with just one lens, you not only achieve stunning shallow depth of field shots (hence, the “beautiful bokeh”), but crisp and clear imagery under well lit conditions as well. It represents the very quality of lens Nikon has built its NIKKOR reputation on.
Adding to that superior clarity, the NIKKOR has adopted a Nano Crystal Coat. Thus, the amount of ghost and flare is reduced thanks to the compensation for chromatic aberration. The 105mm, f/1.4 lens will make a welcome addition to the NIKKOR line of prime lenses
