As the NAB 2013 show opens, the ARC (Adorama Rental Company) is there in full force, displaying a wide array of recently-announced pro video and digital cinema cameras, including the Canon EOS C500, Canon EOS C300, and Canon EOS C100 (Canon announced a $1,000 rebate for the C100 this morning, as the show began) along with the Nikon D800, Sony F5, Panasonic HPX 6000 and Panasonic AC160A, and Blackmagic Cinema Camera, among others. Attendees are welcome to drop by the booth and try out the gear.

Show News Round-Up
Blackmagic introduced two 4K Super HD cameras, including Pocket Cinema Camera that uses a Super 16mm sensor and has a Micro Four Thirds mount for under $1K, and the V2.0, which is bult on a 4K Super 35mm Global Shutter Sensor and is expected to cost $4,000.
Sony teased a cinematography DSLR-style prototype camera (sorry, no release date announced), as well as several lenses. The company didn’t say what the resolution would be, but strongly hinted it would be 4K based on a broad statement regarding the trend towards 4K as a near-future standard. Sony emphasized its growing lineup of 4K capture and display devices at the show.
Tiffen announced a new generation of IRND-based combination filters, including the the Tiffen IRND+Black Pro-Mist filters that have been modified to reduce reflections caused by stacked filters and designed to meet the needs of ultra-high resolution cameras and displays.
Another sign of the growth of ultra-high resolution is Fujifilm’s offer of up to 1 Petabyte (that’s 1,000 Terabytes) of online storage as a promotion for customers who commit to purchase a Permivault online storage solution. Fujifilm is demonstrating Permivault at their booth.
Fire the crew, buy one of these? Redrock Micro‘s One Man Crew is a motorized parabolic slider that can work unattended while delivering cinematic motion for a high-end production feel.
A new version of Vision Research’s Phantom Flex camera, right, was annoucned at the NAB show, offering a 4K resolution at a mind-blowing 1,000 fps. The camera which will record both RAW and compressed formats and will accept PL, Canon EF and Nikon F and G lenses, is said to be scheduled for summer testing by cinematographers, after which it is expected to be available for over $100,000.
