In this iOS seminar, Emmy Award winner Michael Artsis will walk you through how to set up, light, shoot, and record audio for an interview with portable gear ideal for use with an iOS mobile device. In addition to the equipment, Michael will go over his best techniques for how to prepare and conduct interviews to make the conversation natural, engaging, and informative.

PRO DAY: Shooting a Narrative Dialogue

Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM

This comprehensive PRO DAY will cover all the components involved in shooting a dialogue for a narrative film. Topics will include Camera Positioning and movement, As well as Lighting and Audio. Daniel will show how you can use lights to cover multiple subjects, Choose camera angles that allow for clean cuts and work a shotgun mic to cover 2 performers. We will be shooting with the Sony F5 and F55, lighting with Arri Fresnels and Kinoflo and recording with Rode Microphones.

ON SET: Use a Follow Focus with SHAPE

In this session Daniel will demonstrate follow focus techniques using a SHAPE rig to move between two points of interest in a scene. This technique is extremely useful in guiding your viewer through your storyline. We will explore working with: A moving subject with a stationary camera, Both subject and camera in motion, Both subject and camera Stationary. We will discuss when to use a whip and /or a focus puller. There will be two sessions, first 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, second from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

In this hands-on session, Daniel will start with a well lit subject and focus on creating interest with camera position/movement as well as lens selection/selective focus. Using mixed lighting solutions, from different types of lighting (LED to flourescent to tungsten) to different color temperatures (ranging from 5600K daylight to 3800K flourescent), Jason demonstrates how you can create stunning photographs by combining and composing with the lights at your disposal.
