Aputure continues its legacy of innovation, and is adding on to its Light Storm C family with its latest unveiling. Announced today at the 2019 International Broadcasting Convention (IBC), the soon-to-come LS 600d LED light is the next level from the brand’s 300D II.
“First thing first: 600 watts of raw LED power,” Ted Sim, President and Chief Brand Officer at Aputure, tells Adorama. “That is about the equivalent to a 4.5K to 5K tungsten light.”
The unit will have a 600W output, with a 720W draw, and is shorter yet wider than the LS C300II, which Sim notes will make the unit ideal for filmmakers who need to fit into tighter spaces while shooting. It is also featuring a Bowens-style mount, which means you can add attachments like modifiers, and can also work with Aputure’s own Spotlight modifier for added control.
The on-board low-RPM fan is also nearly silent, and quieter than the 300D II, even at double the output.
The light can also be controlled using Aputure’s Sidus Link app, brining it easily into the your entire lighting network.
The accompanying controller (see above) has four V-mount batteries, or the unit can also run off a 48V DC input. When using four 310W V-mount batteries, Sim adds, the unit can withstand up to an hour and 45 minutes of non-stop use. Sim notes, however, that the company is aiming to nearly halve the size of the controller come release time — which will be beginning of 2020 — so stay tuned for additional updates.
