Maybe you need a gift for someone you just can’t pin down. And we don’t mean the gift idea, we mean them. She’s always on the move—camping, being all…outdoorsy. Him, too, you know the one, always looking up—at the birds during the day and the stars at night.

They still love great technology, and you want to get them something they’ll love for the holidays.

This is your list.

Vortex Optics 10×42 Diamondback Series Waterproof Roof Prism Binocular

The Vortex smooth focusing 10×42 Diamondback binocular takes you to the fine details. This rattlesnake-rugged binocular is striking in how well it detects life in low light. Its huge field-of-view enhances fully multi-coated optics, phase-corrected prisms, plus it has waterproof and fog-proof construction, soft tapered eyecups and rugged rubber armor.

You can trust the rock-solid performance of the Diamondback binocular across rocky, sand-carved terrain, or into the high timber of the mountains. The Diamondback’s protective rubber coating gives you a sure grip that is easy to handle, even as fingers grow numb in the cold. The retractable eyecups feature a soft, tapered style for a more natural fit at your eye—cushioned with rubber for years of relaxed viewing.

Bushnell Scout DX 1000 6×20 Laser Rangefinder

The Bushnell Scout DX 1000 combines a laser rangefinder and inclinometer inside a waterproof housing to deliver precise distance measurements almost anywhere that adventure leads. Angle Range Compensation (ARC) technology makes this device especially useful for hunters and target shooters. In addition to a 1000-yard range and half-yard accuracy, the Scout DX 1000 includes three targeting modes to best suit the conditions of the target, and is capable of rejecting unwanted readings from surrounding objects. All measurements, mode indicators and aiming reticle are displayed on the rangefinder’s in-view LCD screen.

The laser emitter and receiver communicate data with an inclinometer that determines the relative angle of the Scout DX 1000 to the target. By calculating the elevation difference between those two points, the rangefinder will determine the actual distance and the required holdover values needed to reach the target. To fully integrate the experience for shooters, the built-in Variable Sight-In (VSI) feature computes bullet-drop data into useful aiming point adjustments depending on the rifle’s zero. The Bow ranging mode works in a similar way, instead computing data into angle-of-elevation and horizontal distance information. A rubber armored water-sealed housing equips the Scout DX 1000 for shooting tasks in the elements.

Firefield 4-16×42 AO Tactical Riflescope

The Firefield 4-16×42 AO Tactical IR Riflescope is a nitrogen-filled zoom optic designed for mid-range targets. Complementing this scope’s 16x maximum zoom and 1:4 zoom ratio is adjustable objective (AO) parallax correction, which can be set from 15 yards to infinity by rotating the ring on the objective bell. This scope features a Mil Dot reticle that can be illuminated in red or green using a dedicated reticle brightness side turret.

The reticle illumination control has five selectable brightness settings for each color; green illumination is more visible than red in low-light conditions, but red is more useful for targeting subjects among a woodland landscape. In addition to the broad zoom range and illuminated reticle, the Tactical riflescope has a multicoated optical path, shock-resistant housing, and 1/4 MOA locking turrets, equipping this optic for reliable mid-range performance outdoors.

Ok, so this isn’t exactly an outdoors thing. But. How else will you get to study the tiny bug you discovered on your picnic blanket, or the veins in the cool-looking leaf you found, or see what grains of sand really look like up close—or any number of other tiny things that exist to be curious about?

The professional-level Celestron LCD Digital Microscope II is a biological LCD microscope at an affordable price. With fully achromatic lens objectives, a mechanical stage, 3.5″ full color TFT screen and 5 MP CMOS sensor, the LCD Digital Microscope II allows for high-resolution imaging of specimen slides. The microscope even includes a 1 GB SD card, enough storage to capture over 600 high-resolution images for lab reports, papers, lessons, and more.

From 40x magnification up to 1600x with digital zoom, the LCD Digital Microscope II is ideal for viewing a range of cellular specimens on slides, like most traditional microscopes. The LCD screen rotates 180 degrees so you can easily share your discoveries with others. For an even bigger audience, use the TV output to display on a television or projector. Great for the discriminating professional or serious hobbyist, the LCD Digital Microscope II is ideal for labs, schools and research institutions.
